Subject: It seemed more of a mutual infatuation, to me. Fiametta is peaking in her career and her usual partners are clients and patrons, likely older, paunchier men. It is apparent at this point in her life that she will never have a true love, a husband, a family. I viewed the relationship with the "pup" as a last grasp at youth, and perhaps a bit of regret for the life she might have had under other circumstances. Bucino is thinking of their survival. Their's is pretty much a hand to mouth existence, and if word gets out Fiametta is "giving it away" that could definitely impact their cashflow.

  • I think she enjoyed the thought of being in love, something she missed in her life as a courtesan. His amorous responses probably helped her to feel beautiful, something she was working very hard to maintain, and really, feeling in love is a wonderful boost. Bucino could see how this relationship was going to affect their business, his livelihood, and it wasn't at all likely to last. He was practical, she was euphoric.
