I really never wanted to believe that Nicholas could sleep with the Emperor anymore than I could stomach the idea of Lymond sleeping with the Dragut. According to Mickey, a manager for one of the Dunnett online forums, the author herself confirmed that Nicholas did indeed do just that. Here is something Mickey wrote at the DDANZ yahoo group a few years ago in answer to another reader's disbelief:

"Hi Jayne,

Dorothy looked me right in the eye and said yes he did, lollipop (her nickname
for me from the Nikado.)

Mickey, who will always remember that because I had Dorothy all to myself for
about 10 minutes."
