Subject: I agree with you all above, books definitely. As for Jack, I agree also that he didn't know much about the world, so it would be difficult for him to ask for things he didn't even know existed. I am glad that the author chose not to tell us more about Old Nick, for one thing, I think it made the story scarier because he stays a total stranger to us the whole time, but may be if we had known his life we would have sympathized may be. What he did may not have been as horrifying as it is? I mean, I have a 19 year old college girl who lives on campus, so I do not find anything excusable to this guy, if anything, I tremble even more to think of what can happen so quickly, but if we had known of a terrible past for Old Nick might have given him some excuse for what he had become!
