I think we probably all agree on books given all of our love of reading! I think Jack loves his books, too, thanks to his Ma. Thinking in the moment, as children often do, though, if I was Jack I'd probably be asking for chocolate :) As to Ma and Old Nick, I think she'd done the fighting thing when first captured and realised that it simply took too much of her mental and physical energy, plus the quicker Old Nick is out of the room, the less chance there is that he will harm Jack physically, emotionally and/or mentally. I thought it was interesting that Ma didn't show even a hint of Stockholm Syndrome, which can occur even in the most horrific of kidnapping situations. I don't think there is any sort of explanation for people like Old Nick, they are simply wired wrong. -- Shamrocks & Stones
