Subject: all really good points, Peggy. I also considered the fact that with so many of them (around a dozen) in the same hidey-hole, that this has been happening in this town/area for a while. There has to be a connection for all of them in some way, although as the world moves on (new buildings, cars, roads, etc) there must be an unfamiliarity that makes it hard to remember their past. As well as the magical aspect of becoming a changeling eliminating some of their memory. There's definitely a strong sense of nostalgia and the need for closure for both Henry and Aniday.
In reply to: PeggyB 's message, "Been thinking about this a lot. I have some thoughts....
--Anniday is the newest changeling, perhaps his thoughts are actually common to all new changelings.
--The changeling tribe lives close to where Anniday lived his human childhood...that proximity to familiar surroundings likely triggers memories for him.
--This kind of connection to an earlier life is a common human experience, I've discussed in on the Kitchen board, "you can't go home again" is a common quote (Thomas Wolfe) that refers to the desire to revisit earlier life and the reality that you can't go back.
