Subject: Q1. I noticed that line from Sara Khatun as well and wondered to whom she was referring. Doria was pleased to think Nicholas had slept with Alexios against his wedding vows, but I don't think he had the means to plan it. Alexios was perhaps the warm-up act for the Emperor, but Alexios is young and beautiful and the Emperor probably wouldn't want the comparison. I have know understanding of Violante's scheming mind though what she would have to gain from this interaction is beyond me. So, as you can see, I have no idea!

  • Q2. Again, I'm pretty clueless as the thinking behind Sara Khatun's actions, though I can guess that she finds Nicholas intelligent and highly motivated, and better an ally than an enemy. Her interest in Nicholas probably includes Astorre's army that again is better to have 'for' rather than 'against' her son and his ambitions. (NT) -- Denise, 10:26:10 10/02/11 Sun
