Subject: Yes, I really feel for Philippa. She finally knows for certain where her heart lies, and that pathway is closed to her. While reading this chapter I was doing the "what only" statements we do to make ourselves crazy. So much angst could have been avoided if they had only been honest with each other!

  • That's my favorite line as well, Elaine. What struck me in this chapter was Mary Fleming's observation. They disliked one another. It was painful to watch. (V, pg. 136) Lymond and Philippa's efforts to suppress and conceal their powerful feelings for each other gave the appearance (to a very astute woman, I might add) of disdain. • I think they were trying so hard to appear detached and having to hold themselves so tightly in check they must have given off a terrible aura of strain. (NT) -- Carla, 11:53:42 04/09/09 Thu
  • Yes, that line was really interesting. I always enjoy getting the view from someone else's perspective. (NT) -- Elaine, 12:06:38 04/09/09 Thu
