And who made the decision to invade Iraq? Not Clinton, Not Albright and not any of those who bought the bullshit promulgated by the likes of Richard Perle, Bill Kristol, Frank Gaffney and every neo-con pissant, starting in 1991 with a position paper written by Paul Wolfowitz and submitted to Papa Bush to justify an invasion of Iraq and the ouster of Saddam.

You want some more history? The US under Reagan and Bush I assisted Saddam in his war with Iran and when the USS Stark was hit by 2 Iraqi Exocet ASMs with 37 sailors killed and others severely burned, Reagan was quick to accept Saddam's "apology." The Reagan administration also provided Saddam with imagery from the US's premier overhead IMINT system, so Saddam could better target Iranian troop concentrations with mustard and sarin as well as performing BDA (battle damage assessment) to determine the effectiveness of his SCUD strikes on Iranian cities. US companies had sold Saddam cultures for his bio-weapons program and US companies had sold Saddam precursor chemicals for his chemical weapons programs. And then there's the matter of 1000's of cluster bombs sold to Saddam by Cardoen of Chile in the 1980s with US assistance.

And then there was Saddam's Anfal Operation of ethnic cleansing against the Kurds as the war with Iran ended. Anfal was officially conducted between February 23 and September 6, 1988, and according to the Iraqi prosecutors, as many as 180,000 civilian Kurds were killed in the campaign. The commander of note was Ali Hassan Al Majid, aka "Chemical Ali," who had conducted the gassing of 5,000 Kurds in Halabja in 1985, about which the Reagan administration remained curiously mute. Chemical Ali was hung recently in Baghdad. I wonder if the Reagan administration also provided Saddam with imagery of the Anfal genocide as it was proceeding.
