• Wow, this is fabulous, CindyS! Great pictures and slideshow! Several of us hunted for sea glass on this beach and Ron turned out to be the champion spotter of sea glass, which he kindly gave to me. The beach was mainly small rounded stones, both black or whitish with other caramel colored rocks there too. I'm glad George, the bus driver, stopped long enough for us to jump out to get a picture of the Highland coos, because they were the only ones we saw on the entire trip.   • Hey Denise, it's really not difficult just takes a little practice. Set up a PB account, it's free - from there you can create albums or just start uploading (there is an upload button and you just browse your puter for the picture you want). Once they are uploaded, PB will give you the HTML code, copy that code and paste it here..voila :-) You can email pics to me and I'll post them if you want...obviously I know how do it yea hahaha (NT) -- Mahri, 10:13:49 11/09/09 Mon

    • Did you get to see Kilmainham Cindy? There are actually 2 crosses, one at either end. The one in Carla's picture is where all but one of the men were executed. The last one executed, James Connolly I think...was majorly wounded and had to be brought to the jail in an ambulance and tied to a chair in order to be shot. • I arrived in Dublin on Sunday morning and Elaine kindly met me at the airport (I had met her in Seattle for Peggy's birthday) and we caught the hotel shuttle to the Carleton Airport Hotel. We dropped off my luggage and she excorted me to the city center to Trinity College to see the Book of Kells. The city center was a mob scene of football (soccer?) fans dressed in yellow and green or red and white and spilling out into the street. It was like New Year's Eve in NYC! It was the Irish Football Championship and the one of the biggest weekends of the year!   • Our first day in Dublin sound similar Fran. I got to the hotel, got told I had to go away for 3 hours and spent those three hours walking around Trinity College, seeing the Book of Kells and then taking the hop-on hop-off bus to get my bearings.     • The Book of Kells was fascinating to see. We learned on the tour that the building just to the left of the Book of Kells is the suppository for the college and they receive the first copy of every book that is printed! They have hundreds of thousands of books there and just imagine the space inside and the cataloguing system and the smell of all those new books. It felt overwhelming to be so near so many books! • I arrived in Dublin on Friday morning and was quite excited to get the Shindig underway and start meeting the Shammies! I had really comfy pants on so even though I was a bit tired, I was ready to go and tour the city. The first place I visited was Trinity College - so pretty fitting for a teacher. The architecture was beautiful and the historical stories told by the guide Jack were interesting and funny. Dublin was a great city and being there with the Shammies before the tour began was a great way to relax and recover from the plane trip and just have fun with each other. I enjoyed walking around the city streets looking for Irish chocolate bars and a big coffee mug for Mahri, the parks, St. Patrick's Cathedral which of course had the Door of Resuscitation in the Church of the Erection bwahahaaaa!   • Tracy, I love the photos of the toilet and the floor tiles! We should have taken a photo of that hot water spigot! It had to be turned 90 degrees; otherwise, it faced the outside of the bowl! And the infamous shower door that fell on Tracy. She could have been hurt, but fortunately was okay. We tried to cover the big bathroom window with towels so the folks in the elevated train couldn't see 'our business!' They were almost close enough to see the color of their eyes! • I spent my first couple days in Dublin, while the other Shammies made their way back from N. Ireland. Day two I got on the hop-on hop-off bus and headed straight for the the Guiness Storehouse. Well I detoured a bit and stopped for a scone at the famous Queen of Tarts coffee shop. Then it was off to Guiness where I spent the morning touring, shopping and enjoying a Guinness at the Gravity Bar. What a difference in taste from here in the U.S.! I then hit many of the other walking spots in the city. I stopped at Dublinia, Christ's Church, Dublin Castle (didn't get inside though) and walked out front of Bono and The Edge's hotel on the Liffey. I think the thing I saw the most were the black tights that were all the rage for the girls around the college. • I'm really glad I got the chance to see Dublin. Unlike Carla, I'm not much of a city girl anymore (all those people and buses and noises get to me after awhile), but it was definitely worth seeing, especially since I probably won't go there again. It's a great city, though, and easy to navigate when you have Tracy as tour guide! I honestly don't think I could have managed by myself, frankly ~ would have certainly gotten lost more than once.   • I loved my first day in Dublin! I had slept well from utter exhaustion Friday night and was so full of energy to spend the day exploring with you and CindyS. The tour of Dublin Castle was a highlight of the day, but we can't forget Wayne O'Dwyer, the famous bodhran player (or so he said) who regaled us with stories of his illustrious career (meanwhile he was selling soaps in a street market!). The three of us spent Sunday at the National Art Gallery and National Museum of Ireland (archeology). I enjoyed walking about Dublin, and felt very comfortable with the surroundings and people. • It was an extremely long way for me and having had a revolting experience with holes in tiled floor doubling as toilets at Dubai (the describing of this amused many), my flight was delayed by an hour at Manchester, so when the Aer Lingus flight finally touched down I was just about the first to leap out of my seat ready for disembarking. One lady muttered, just loud enough for me to hear, something about having only been an 30 minute flight and Ireland being there whether you are first off the plane or last, but she had not been on flights as long as me! Marilyn, bless her heart*G*, was waiting for me as dragged my sea container of baggage through the airport and we caught a taxi to O'Neills. • Okay I am back. The other Shammies have well and truly covered almost everything I saw and reminded me of things I had forgotten. On the Sunday off we went as a wee group following Marilyn's letterbox clue, which well truly sucked Ron in! Carla and I on the other hand enjoyed a quiet and leisurely stroll around the gardens of Dublin Castle, (some photos inside) until I saw Carla lovingly stroking a bronze plaque in a garden wall. There were a series of mess ups before we even left Calgary, with our cruise package never reaching us from the travel agent (finally had it faxed to work before we left). I do think in the cruise paperwork it'll say it doesn't guarantee the ports. My father went on an extended cruise a few years back out of Barcelona on Norwegian Cruise Line that he thought was fabulous. Maybe check them out for your next cruise. • Having been to Ireland now, the past two Septembers, I'm thinking that should be my once a year retreat...I mean I've kinda already got a tradition started...I should keep it going right? *G* I can't pick a fav, I enjoy them all for different reasons. Some do run more smoothly than others though. We are not very exoctic travelers and since it took me 15 yrs to talk my husband into going anywhere that he needed a passport, I doubt we'll get too adventurous in the future. So probably my once in a lifetime trip, so far, was Rome with my parents. But who knows what the future holds. We do a beach trip every other year and even though it's kinda of old news (we've been going to the same place for almost 20 yrs.), I still look forward to it and have a blast. • I think that every place I visited is special because of what it represented at the time, either family life or just the pleasure of discovering some new place but the experience of a lifetime was for me when at 20, I came to the States with my backpack and travelled for 2 months through 38 States riding Greyhound buses,! I was alone, just a speck thousands o fmiles from anybody I knew. It really transitioned me to a different phase of my life! 3 months after having lived through a very difficult and traumatizing ordeal, it allowed me to make peace with myself and come back a changed and better person. • Like Isa, every place I have traveled has reasons for being special. But, if I have to single one out, it has to be my trip to Costa Rica. Cities don't really do it for me, and this trip was much more about the natural wonders of the country. It is a bird watcher's paradise; I saw species there I will likely never see again in my life. I enjoyed walking in the rain forest, boating in the jungle, and snorkling in the ocean. Upon return, I immediately wanted to take the rest of the family back there...unfortunately $$$$$ haven't allowed that. Aside from the just wonderful trip it was, it will likely be the last trip I take with my mom, and it was very special to have that time with her. I'll upload some photos to flickr and post them. • I think like everyone else said, my vacations are all an experience. I enjoyed Ireland, but I wish I could have stayed longer. I really enjoyed the RV trip with my family down the Oregon and Calif coast. Also the trip to Cozumel with DH was good and our 4 days in Vegas was a great time (romantic and fun). I think that over time some of the negative parts fade and the good times sort of float to the surface of your memory. I just wish the getting back from vacation blues didn't hit so hard. I've had it bad, but coming back from Ireland was the worst. I'm pretty much over them, but I still daydream about being with the Shammies. Can't wait to do next week's Craic! • It really depends on my mood and what I do too. When I walk I have a selected playlist on my ipod with all kind of high beat such as Aerobic techno remix Abba songs. At home or in the car, my Ipod is usually set on shuffle so I get to hear about everything from French pop to Rai (arab rock) to Italian or Irish or Eskimo Joe, (thanks Leigh 'g'). When I need to relax, it's Leonard Cohen and when DH is around, he just turned the satellite radio on UK Radio 1 so everything is good! • I recently got the Awake, Live cd of Josh Groban's concert in Salt Lake City a couple of years ago that I attended with a friend. So I'm playing that in the car and watching it while "computing". It was an exciting night getting to meet him at the Meet & Greet" (some of you may remember that we took a patient of my friend's who's in a wheelchair to the concert to get to see her husband who drove one of the 18 wheelers for the tour), and attend the concert in good seats in a huge arena with screaming fans listening to operatic style songs sung in Italian, Spanish, French, and English. • Its so funny that you bring this up Carla...I work with a testing software at work and the regional contact is named Seamus O'Leary. We've exchanged emails, but today he had to call me because of some dissatisfaction with our customer support. Can I tell you how disappointed I was when he had an American accent?! I loved the original even if a little outdated (they had reruns on the Sci-fi all day) so I got to watch it again, I was expecting like every remake, to be not as good as, but I was pleasantry surprised. They came out right away with the fact that they are 'reptiliens' while the origina took several weeks, but I guess it's normal, most people who are watching know the story anyway, so I thought it was well condensed, straight to the point without losing any of the mystery!
