Katie & I spent Monday at Worlds... WOW, what a day!!! We're also headed back for Thursday....

Parking: If you have a navigator, plug in the address for the Kimmel Center and just search for the parking signs when you get there. There are several parking garages nearby. We parked in a garage at the intersection of Spruce & 15th, and we paid $12 (stayed approx 7 hrs).

When you arrive, you can enter the Kimmel Center and get a lay of the land before purchasing your tickets. There is no cost to walk around the venue and visit the vendors. But you must have a wristband to enter the dance halls.

There are TV screens outside of Verizon Hall showing what is happening on stage. Way cool!

Purchase admissions at the Box Office, then get your wristband at the table next to the box office.

Verizon Hall (most of girls 1st & 2nd rounds) and Perlman Theatre (most boys rounds and girls recall round) are both in the Kimmel Center. The ceilis are all at the Marriott, which is about 7 blocks away. It's not a bad walk, IF the weather is decent. (No fun in the rain, which we did on Monday!)

Verizon Hall is an incredible theater! It reminds me of the Strathmore - huge, great acoustics, and roundish, with many tiers of seating. Perlman Theatre is smaller, but also multi-tiered, which offers great visibility.

Admissions is expensive, and cash only. Be prepared.

There are several food stands in the Kimmel Center, each with bagels, muffins, danish, hot dogs, hamburgers, chips, drinks. Similar to airport prices - $2 water, $2 chips, $3 hot dog, $4 hamburger, etc)

Requests from Molly Nilan...

Dancers, if you are able to go, try to get to see girls, boys and ceilis. Look for style in each. Note the consistently high level of technique, particularly how HIGH dancers are on their toes, how long they hang their leaps, how LOUD their feet are in the heavy round, their cross and turnout, and how much dancers use the stage. The REALLY good dancers make it look completely effortless. It's truly amazing to see.

Katie and I each noticed several moves that I didn't know were physically possible. Wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't witnessed it. Way cool.

Enjoy the experience and BE INSPIRED!!!

(Ignore the orange skin from spray tan and the humongous wigs. Major yikes.) :)

  • Great to know. What ages constitute a kid for the $10. price, and I didn't realize that there was a heavy round in ceili or I misread Meg's. I can only imagine what "impossible" moves are being danced. (NT) -- thanks., 11:42:13 04/08/09 Wed
