I also think one must move from beginner to advanced beginner after 1 full year of Irish stepdance instruction, but may move up earlier if placing as you indicated. NAFC & SR rules say one hard shoe 1st place, and one soft shoe 1st place in Open Prizewinner dances, to move to Preliminary. I thought Teelin had it as one first place in each of the four main dances, i.e., slip jig, reel, hornpipe, and treble jig, to qualify to move up to preliminary (which is what MW Region rules require). I see no rule requiring one to move from Prizewinner to Preliminary Champions, even if I'm finding rules for requiring movement from Preliminary Champions to Open Champions. Of course, advice from the teacher, in our case, Maureen, is the best. Thanks again for clarifying.
