Subject: How many of us would have lasted 5 minutes watching this if DJE had not been in it? As it was, I turned it off after 30 minutes last night and switched to PBS to watch American Experience. Now, I am a fan of Sci-Fi, so I can't blame a lack of interest for my reaction. This thing was so bad it isn't funny. Did DJE have fun making it? Absolutely. I think they all had a wonderful time making the movie. Unfortunately the acting was abysmal, even by guys who can do much better, like Chris Lloyd & DJE. The acting was stilted, and then every once in a while ....(inside)

... ....a character would utter a few lines that were done well, and the contrast became glaring. The visuals were fabulous & the makeup cool. Not a lot to commend four hours. Sorry. Ok, yes, seeing DJE get physical was a plus :)

[> Can'r critique movie as didn't/couldn't see it (live in UK), but haven't been liking any of the screencaps with DJE all dressed up and wigged out -- for me it's as attractive a look for him as if he was in drag -- sorry all you swashbuckler-lovers. inside.... -- mj, 09:39:58 04/21/09 Tue [1]

Having said that, I never liked Errol Flynn either in his costumes and if I would've lived at that time, I probably would've remained single -- LOL!, But, hey, I'm glad for DJE that he got to do something different, fun, and comic-book like for his audience and kids. He, himself, said he knew it was more comic-book fantasy, not a high-budget epic. Hope we get to see him, though, in something where he can show off those acting chops and instincts we know he has. As for the accent -- I lived in Scotland for 4 years and even the Scots dip in and out of their accents -- really! I lived in Aberdeen and that accent was EXTREMELY hard to understand so the Aberdonians would Americanize it a bit for me -- really funny. They are the lovliest, most down-to-earth people -- a few of them wrote me poems and we cried buckets when we left. There's alot of hidden wealth, too, in those Highlands, even though the Scots are mostly a cheap bunch -- don't kid yourself! I also loved seeing those strapping men (many DJE look-alikes -- indeed he looks Scottish) walking around in their kilts (probably with no underwear!)!!! My crazy husband bought a kilt and wore it a couple times -- at a wedding we went to and then at a formal we went to. He loves to get laughs and got lots of female attention --grrrrrr!

[> [> If you'd like to see it, mj, I can tell you where you can watch it online, but honestly, you're not missing much. I know DJE said he thought the script was well written, but I'd have to respectfully disagree. It seemed like just another Saturday night movie of the week for Sci Fi, and I usually tend to avoid those like the plague. I wouldn't have watched it either if not for DJE's role in it. -- California Girl, 17:12:32 04/21/09 Tue [1]

[> [> CG, thanks for offering to send me the site to watch it online, but I think I'll pass. I think I'd end up cringing most of the time anyway. I actually like SciFi -- it unleashes a part of my imagination that I keep suppressed, but bad scifi can be boring and silly and I end up laughing AT it -- I respect DJE too much to go there on this. Plus, if my husband caught me resorting to watching something like this online just BECAUSE DJE was in it, he'd be very upset and think I'd REALLY lost it!!! inside -- mj, 09:08:04 04/22/09 Wed [1]

He's already jealous of DJE -- LOL!!! Anyhow, I so hope DJE gets something shine-worthy soon -- I'll wait for that!!! ;)!

[> [> [> Good idea! Yes, definitely one to skip then. ;) I'll admit, I found myself laughing a few times when it wasn't supposed to be funny... -- California Girl, 12:24:15 04/24/09 Fri [1]
