Subject: HAPPY B-DAY, DAVID!!! Excellent, Spud!!! No one looks better at 48 (OMG!) than David!!!! I remember ... (inside)
In reply to: MarilynM 's message, "Happy, happy birthday, David, Dear. Happy days will come to you all year. If I had a wish then it would be a happy, happy birthday from to you from me. And many more!!!" on 08:12:45 09/21/08 Sun

....when he turned 40 and the old DJEOnline sent him a gift and he sent a thank you note back saying something about the "tender and terrifying age of 40" LOL I used to have a scan of it, but lost it when switching computers a few years ago.

David wrote, if it was indeed him and not someone pulling our leg...

"Thank you for such a wonderful, thoughtul gift on this slightly tender day-the big 40"

Then he went on to talk about the gift itself.

Hey Carol!
I knew I had a photo-file of it, because I remember seeing David's signature - or was that on something else? Didn't he also say something about his typing? Gosh, it's been too long.

But no, I don't have that image in my computer anymore. I just figured it would always be there or that you would retain it somehow or something.

I know we chose not to post it at DJEO because we weren't 100% sure that it was him.

Gosh, sorry. I wish I could wiggle my nose and make it appear for you. For all of us.

You are right, it was an e-mail. Then what did I have a photo file of that had his signature on it? I used to remember all kinds of stuff like this, but....

The text of the email...just as "D.J.E."...if that's who it was...typed it. Unless of course Voy messes with it.

To the Club:Thank you for such a wonderful, thoughtful gift on this
slightly tender day-the big 40 ---Butch Blake is one of my favorite
people the the antique Richard II book is very appreciated ,last but certainly
not least is the message book from the fans----I'm very touched by this kind
gesture.---thank you,thank you , thank you!!!!!!!

Sincerely D.J.E.

P.S. I would have been more verbose but
I'm typing with two fingers!

[> [> Reading your exchange, Mz. Chief and Carol C made me realize that you two (as well as quite a few others) have been watching David in various roles for quite some time. I've only seen him 'age' through his photos and snippets from on-line glimpses and watching JAG for almost 2 years now. I think he's MUCH better-looking and more interesting looking now. Hope he gets more intersting roles because of this! Cheers,'oldtimers' (who I think I'm older than both of you!) -- mj (who's got a birthday coming up -- aging's on my mind!), 17:23:03 09/22/08 Mon [1]

[> [> [> mj, it scares me to think how long I've been doing this JAG/Harm message board thing... Since the summer of '99 actually. ::shudder:: I helped Carol here and a few other fantastic fans start the original DJEO fanclub that, sadly, is no more. But, it's been a great ride so far, watching David through JAG and his other roles. He's a great guy to be a fan of. Makes a fan proud because he's an honorable man. -- The Chief, 22:39:10 09/22/08 Mon [1]

[> [> [> [> hey Chief, you got me to thinking.........and I did the math........I was 'introduced' to DJE on Street Legal..........20 years ago!!!!!! You know, I never really thought about how long I have been a fan until I read your post...............wow....20 years.........and he just keeps on getting better and better............he did an amazing job in The Rainbow Tribe....:) -- spudz, 23:41:43 09/22/08 Mon [1]

[> [> [> [> [> Holy macaroni, spudz!!! You've practically discovered DJE!!! What's it like to follow his career SO LONG?! Have you met him yet? Does he know you're so loyal and amazed? I know that you do alot to get us 'newbies' in-the-know about him and his work, but, wow, 20 years -- you're an UBER-fan! -- mj, 10:37:29 09/23/08 Tue [1]

[> [> [> [> [> [> [> WOW Spudz...20 years!! That's incredible!! I like to watch some of the old stuff also. I think I have almost everything he's done...that's available anyway. [> [> [> [> [> Ok, you beat me. For me it's been 15 years. I've first noticed him when I was a teen and saw him in Doogie Howser (which was somewhere in 1993 I think). it was the wink he gave in it that got me (I'm a sucker for winks). Then a year later I saw he was listed in a new show on Dutch TV 'The untouchables'. I HAD to see it (and had to stay awake for it since it was aired around 22h30 (way past my bedtime at the time). We've never had Street Legal over here and Seinfeld came on TV YEARS after it was on in the US. -- CB - and the years have been very good to him., 16:37:32 09/27/08 Sat [1]

So, I do believe Doogie Howser was his first appearance in Europe (Belgium and Holland anyway) and I was there to see it and he lulled me in right away and never let me go.

[> [> [> MJ...I've been online and involved in DJE fandom since June '98. I started watching JAG the beggining of seas.2 (I didn't even know there had been a seas.1...until the summer reruns when Meg showed up.)...and was quickly hooked. ---> inside... I'm over -- CarolC, 17:34:08 09/24/08 Wed [1]

My biggest frustration was why this show...it seemed to do well on TV... and the amazingly good looking star was totally ignored by the press. No one I knew watched it, I couldn't find any information about DJE...it was so frustrating!! And then we bought a computer (actually I read in TV Guide that DJE was going to do an online chat and I wanted in!! It didn't work out but that's another story.) and I was no longer alone. LOL Since that time I've been involved in 3 websites, a convention (what a nightmare!!) and the JAG fanfests. Their have been some ups and downs but through it all I'm still a fan of DJE. LOL

[Edit]

[> [> [> [> CarolC, I scratch my head every day wondering why on earth, DJE is not given his 'propers' (I heard 'Respect' by Aretha Franklin the other day, LOL) in Hollywood....inside -- mj, 08:45:43 09/25/08 Thu [1]

All i can figure is that he just doesn't play the hype game with all the publicity-hungry promoters, he doesn't suck up to TPTB, folks are just plain jealous, he's a decent, normal guy and doesn't have the dysfunctional needs that some of the typical 'hunks' have -- oh, I don't know -- I just don't get it at all. The other thing is -- he's been in a successful TV series (even without all the hype, though, there was a period when it seems like he did get a good deal of attention -- only from what I read online at your sites -- I was totally unaware of JAG and him before 2006!, and that makes it super hard to go on auditions....both from TPTB's standpoint (as they want to typecast him) and his standpoint (it's super-humiliating after you've been successful to undergo readings for parts). It's like a guy who was a former CEO of a company having to go on interviews for a job! Anyway, I think he's great and deserves whatever he wants and should be as able to call his own shots as much as a Clooney or Pitt or some of the other super hyped-up good-looking male stars out there. Wish I could've gone to a JAG convention or fanfest!

[Edit]

[> [> I didn't become a DJE fan until JAG, though I used to see him on Street Legal, Knotts Landing, and of course, on the Seinfeld episode, all in first run. I saw the Untouchables in reruns on Canada's History TV in 2001-2. It was the Harm character that got me hooked. I am, of course, a founding member of the HB (the only "Harm" board as far as I know), on November 17, 2001. (inside) -- Cece (OMG...my capcha is CWh2..lol.), 14:42:56 09/30/08 Tue [1]

My second degree of separation is that DJE's best friend from the past (Alan Harmon, who directed him in Street Legal), and his family, have been my neighbours for about 14 yrs). Alan and his wife Cynde, DJE and NC, all met each other on the SL set. They have some interesting stories about DJE, which are fun to listen to. However, they never tell me really private stuff. When I found out they were friends with DJE, I felt really silly having a huge stack of DJE images on my hard drive (hey, I needed them for collages!)

[Edit]

[> [> [> OMG, Cece -- what a story! It goes to show -- one never knows who you will meet along the way and being discreet and listening first works out better than coming out with it all! LOL. Imagine if these folks would've be over for a drink one night and you went to your computer to download your favorite poem or line from Shakespeare, whatever and they saw your whole DJE 'collection' YIKES! inside -- mj, 14:58:26 09/30/08 Tue [1]

Sometimes, I would love to get a calendar or some DVD's (that wouldn't be too smart, though cuz I don't have a DVD player)with his other shows besides JAG or some of the natty trinkets one of the boards makes, like paperweights, key chains, etc., but I stop myself and instead just give a donation. With my luck, I'd be on the tube in London or on a plane to the States or Italy or wherever and DJEs mother or niece or someone who knows him would be sitting next to me and ask -- hey, what's up with THAT? Um, I'd be MORTIFIED!
