He portrayed the proverbial 'bad boy' that we all are drawn to during our adolescence or stages of immaturity. The point of this story (sadly a true one) is that it IS immature and debilitating to stay 'locked' in the trap of still being drawn to that which is dangerous, debilitating, wrong, unbalanced, selfish, self-destructive, perhaps even demonic, no matter why, actually. Because of Sue S's child abuse, she had a trauma that set her off quite easily into that need and world, but, really, it could happen to anyone who, for some reason, is weak or unhappy or looking for 'love'. It's rather pathetic and boring, actually, as one gets older and supposedly 'wiser' to still want a life like that. Indeed, he really made the part that much more 'real'. If another type of actor had played the role (say, a Woody Allen type), we wouldn't have taken her 'addiction', her 'problem' and her downward spiral as seriously. Rick had to be devastatingly handsome, sexy, alluring, mysterious, dangerous, brooding, heartless, sleazy, and creepy. HAE was a good choice for the physical part and he played the (un)emotion very very well. Good on him!
