Subject: From the trouble on NCIS between Don and Mark Harmon, I think that we can assume that something similar happened between David and Don. Inside...

Don is known for his last minute script changes and fourteen to sixteen hour days, and I'm guessing that David got tired of that and that he and Don had a falling out over it. We know that when it came time to renew David's contract for Season 11, David wasn't even offered one. Apparently, Don refused to even negotiate with him.

He, though, unlike Mark Harmon, probably didn't have a local network of insiders and highly savvy, shrewd, experienced advisors to take on a powerful creative force like DB. Remember, Mark Harmon's wife was in a hit TV series and MH had more of an acting family background.
And, yeah, DJE probably was more demanding after achieving a bit of stardom and experience, himself and, perhaps, was being offered alternative roles at the time, thus increasing his bargaining power. There's nothing wrong with him trying to get a fair piece of the pie from all his hard work and after years of struggling. Perhaps he did get a wee bit cocky, but that's all part of the way things work in that business, I think. These lead actors are so catered, pampered, and kow-towed to that it would take a saint not to succumb to a bit of a feeling of indestructability. DJE, IMO, actually seemed to keep his feet on the ground and his priorities relatively straight. There could have been clashes of egos and such, but no one deserved to be ignored. DJE carried that show, despite DB giving him his big break. I also have to say that, imo, Catherine Bell did make DJE look better and the chemistry of the actors and the way their characters related to one another DID really enhance the show's pull and I think increased it's longevity. But, DJE ALSO, imo, made Catherine Bell look good/better, TOO!. I've yet to see her with a leading man that she's had similar chemistry with. So, they had a wonderful synergy going on and that should be embraced -- not pit one actor's talent against the other's. Overall, though, to me, DJE WAS JAG. Fot DB and his people to ignore that, well, that was really low. DB may be powerful, but he's not indispensible, either -- no one is!! It sounds like a sad situation and I do think DJE did end up getting the short end. I STILL find him extremely watchable and as talented as someone like MH and a host of others who are regularly offered decent roles. I'm still hopeful he will get a great, if not a few great 'comeback' roles and once again, be in something that garners him the status and success he deserves.

I have seen lots of actors who were on hit shows at one time that are now doing commercials, if anything, actors from the movies now doing TV. I saw an interview with Bruce Greenwood who was in the Star Trek movie. The interviewer asked him if, having done a big blockbuster movie, he now looked for work in smaller, more independent movies. His response was, "I just look for work." I imagine a lot (if not most) actors feel that way.

that people change and/or reflect and learn. He STILL is a gorgeous man, has leading man looks and charisma, and is a decent actor. Someone, somewhere along the way will have a forgiving spirit and will take a chance on him again. I really hope that for him. I also hope that DPB isn't totally whipped either in the business.... he's creative and makes things happen. Not everyone in the world dwells on negativity and spilt milk. Many of us pick ourselves up, learn from our mistakes, and keep hammering away to make it in this crazy world. I STILL wish him well. He has a beautiful family and they all seem balanced and happy. He can't be that much of a pain in the ***! Who knows -- maybe through his desert of 'desperation', he comes out an even better actor than ever and has a career renaissance worth every knock he's ever received since his JAG days!! if you really don't like him, hate his acting, and don't wish him well, that's your prerogitive, but please don't diss those of us who want to see him thrive in something really good again!

The show was always about Harm and his story. Most of the storylines revolved around him in some way. He was the hero. Even if he didn't actually win his case, he was still instrumental in pursuing and finding out the truth.

The show usually showed things from his perspective. We saw HIS reactions to people, situations, jokes, etc., moreso than any other character's reactions. That is because the camera was "sympathetic" to him. We've discussed this before. This is most noticeable in the NCIS spinoff eps when suddenly the camera was NOT sympathetic to him. The difference is startling. He became a secondary character seen through the eyes of a stranger. We were used to seeing him through a favorable camera that highlighted the fact that he was the central hero.

The simple fact that remains: a show without its hero is no show, and that's the biggest reason why the latter half of season 10 just didn't work and the show got canceled. People didn't want to see those strangers. Even our beloved Mac interacting with these strangers wasn't enough. We wanted to see Harm. Preferable Harm and Mac. Plain and simple.

I would NEVER go to a CB board and say any of that! What would be the purpose? To stir up trouble? I don't have time for that. So I truly don't understand why you are here saying what you're saying. Are you a DJE fan? If so, then why are you tearing him down? Are you NOT a DJE fan? If so, then why are you here in the first place? I just don't get it.
