Hey everybody! I had so much fun at finals and got so much cool stuff! Its a shame that it was my last year though. Where are the seniors going next year???? We still haven't decided yet because we want to be with friends but we don't know what association anybodies doing. Respong if you know or want to tell me so we can make a decision. I'm going to be doing jumping with my palomino, Slingshot, over the summer! FUN! I'm putting him in hot pimk! Hehehe:D I'm also going to the second week of Spunk Sasser's rodeo camp. Hope to see some of you there. If anyone wants to email me over the summer that's cool because I'll be on the computer a lot to get Algebra 1 done. I'm not waiting till 10th grade for Geomotry and Biology. Anyways, this year was great and the year before that, too. Everyone did amazing at finals and congratulations especially to the all-around boys and girls saddle winners. You obviously worked hard. Have a great summer!
Love Always,
Angie

A special thank you to all of my friends and family who supported me in becoming the 09-10 SJRA Rodeo Queen! Congratulations to Madison for working hard and earning Rodeo Princess! I appreciate Kelvin and the directors for letting us be crowned in front of the croud on Saturday, and thanks to all who made the Queen saddle possible. I look forward to the coming year...making more friends, selling 50/50 tickets, displaying the American flag, and representing the SJRA wherever we go so we can get more families involved!
*************IF you were a flag carrier last year and you would like to continue, please let me know by emailing me directly and tell me which flag you carry, so we can keep you on the list. Hey everybody, can't wait for finals this weekend! I lost the rest of my finals packet with all the info. I know about the stall decorating contest and stuff like that, but I thought that it said in there that we should wear white on the 2nd day of performances and bright colors on the first, right? I also thought it said to get there Thursday night, and then we perform Friday and Saturday, the awards ceremony being Sunday. If someone could tell me wwhether I'm right or wrong, and correct me if needed, that would be great! Thank You! :D

We have a heel horse for sale. Black gelding he's 20 years old. He has been there and done it all. He would be great for a beginner heeler. Our girls have been using him in breakaway and goats as well. He is a great horse to learn anything on. Please call 386-590-4027

We have an awesome Gelding for sale. You can Breakaway, Tie Down, Goat Tie and Heel on hime. He is a great teacher, no bad habits. No box issues. Stitch was one of Brad Culpeppers horses. He has taught our daugther to rope and the only reason he is for sale is she has younger horses that need to be ridden and as long as Stitch is in the barn, he goes to the rodeos. He will put you where you need to be. Has been hauled to college rodeos. If interested call me 863-990-0535

If you are a "Leaving Senior" (8th grader), you can make a poster to hang up for everyone to see at the awards banquet. Be creative and just decorate as you wish. Include pictures of you or your family or your friends! You may want to leave some room to have all of your friends sign it too! We won't need you to turn these in until the finals in Ocala. Have fun!

This is my good Grey mare that I have used for the last year in SJRA. I have won lots of money on her at USTRC's and NTRL's also. This mare is super quiet in the box, and lets you really concentrate on your roping. My parents bought me a new horse and said I have to get rid of one, so here's your chance to own a really nice horse. She is a older mare, she has NEVER been lame since I have owned her. She does have one problem and it's that she is a cribber, but when you keep a collar on her she will not crib. The guy that owned her before I did, had won a truck on her. If you are interested in trying her call my mom or dad and you can come out and try her here. We are only asking $3,500 to a really good home.

I have updated site with points updates, and current news.

Keep in mind finals is rapidly approaching. Finalist bag items are always needed, sponsorships, and auction items. Auction items do not have to be equine related. Last year we raised some $7000 in a hour or so. Clothing items, picture frames, garden items, horse items, roping clinic, autographed items, etc. were sold last year. Anything that you can get donated we probably can sell. Hand made saddle racks are always a hit!

Directors for next year are desprately needed for next year. There are several leaving officers that are moving up so please see Ms Audry to get your name on the ballot for next year. Working for these kids is really rewarding, they will never forget it. I know this from experience myself. We have and have had some great kids come through this organization.

Ad packets that need to go into the program will need to be turned in at the april rodeo. If not they most likely will not get into the finals program.

Any other news? Send me an email or post it here! Everyone did really well in Folkston. It was a pretty tough day, really good competition!

jason

Would like to hear some opinions concerning the size of the saddles that are awarded at the finals. Would you be interested in winning a certificate and then order the size saddle that you need. We understand that in the past some of the saddles have been too small. Wouldn't it be best to order the correct size for the winners so that the winner could actually use his/her saddle? instead of having a prize saddle that can not be used. Some people have had some suggestions about this, please post your opinions and maybe together we could come up with a greater solution. Of course the winners would have to wait on their saddles to be ordered and arrive, and would it be possible for the winners to be able to pay for any extras they might want on the saddle? What do you think?

Hey everyone my grandpa that I told you about passed away Sunday January 25th. It was very hard for all of us especially my grandma. They had been married for about 54 years. It wasn't awful when he left because he had been through a lot and he was ready. We also knew he was going to a better place. He would get to sing again which he loved very much, he wouldn't have diabetes anymore, he would have his toes again and could run around the world if he chose to, and he would get to see his youngest daughter, and two dogs we had before I was born and one of those dogs loved to howl with him as he sang. My grandma seems to be handling this fairly well, but please pray for her.

Hey everyone my grandpa has recently been involved in an automobile accident. He was at South Georgia Medical Hospital in Valdosta, but they were having trouble weaning him off the respirator so they moved him to Select Specailty Hospital in Tallahassee FL. Well they've finally weaned him off the respirator and finally brought him home, but the night he was back didn't go too well,so they moved him to a hospis home so they could keep a better eye on him and soon hope to move him back to South Georgia Medical Hospital. They hope to do surgery again on his bed soars, then hopefully bring him home so things can get back to as normal as possible. My grandma is having trouble with this and maybe when he's home she woun't be so worried and have to travel back and forth everyday.
Please pray for my family and I as we work our way through this difficult situation. We need as many prayers as possible and all are appreciated. Every prayer means a lot to us thank you

Anyone that would be interested in going to a David Key Team Roping Clinic for Headers and Heelers contact me for more information. This clinic would be held around End of April to first part of May.

David is a top notch instructor. I personally have been to several and really liked his more so than any others. This clinic will run $400 to $500 depending upon how many sign up. The folks putting this together would like to keep it to a smaller group if possible so that everyone gets the maximum benefit from this clinic.

This clinic would be held in Altha FL.

Hello everyone! I wanted to pass along something about SJRA. After a roping in Perry, GA this past weekend I was thinking back about people I ran into or even roped with. I want to pass along some things that happen in SJRA that you don’t even realize are happening until years down the road. One of our past presidents always told me the adults don’t even realize how much of an impact we adults have on the SJRA kids. He always said when people are helping it’s not just to make the rodeo run better, they are making impressions on kids.

An impression isn’t hard to make and it lasts forever. It’s just something that is remembered, something that you helped them with, something shared with them, or that brightens a day or helps a run. There are some really, really good kids that come through SJRA. Some of them are now well into their 20’s and then there are some just starting out. They all share something and they never forget it or forget you. I cannot tell you how many I ran into that the first thing they say is, “hey Mr. Jason”. Yes, it’s always Mr., Yes Sir, or No Sir, every time no matter whom they are speaking too. I would say that every one of them I have run into here or any other places are the most well mannered kids. Some of them still look for some advice at a large event like this past weekend, but then again some of them I ask for advice so the role has kind of reversed. None of them have forgotten someone who has helped them. Tightened a cinch, pushed a calf, helped them relax, encouraged them to hustle or toughen up, and sometimes give a hug. Nearly every one of them will first give a smile each time they see you.

So, like I said after thinking back, thinking about what some other adults had shared with me about SJRA I sure see that they were right. You never really know what kind of impression you leave on these kids until after they have moved on and you see them down the road. I hope to watch the NFR someday and remember that I helped one of these now adults get there.

Just something to think about!

Hey everybody! I loved the Willinston arena. The whole place was beautiful and that's the best place my horse has ever run before. I totllay can't wait to go back there. Everybody did really good at Smitty's, too. I had a fairly good time in barrels, but my poles were horrible. Totally working with my horse. I'll see you in Moultrie, GA. Don't forget to bring you rodeo yard sale stuff! Have a wonderful Christmas and Happy Holidays!

The physical address for the Williston Horseman's Arena is 803 SW 19th Avenue, Williston, FL. 32696. I have looked it up on Map Quest and the only thing I can find that might confuse you is the road that you turn off of US 41 onto is also called Well Built Rd. There is a brown sign on the opposite side of 41 that says Hancock Pavillion and we have a marque on the corner where you turn off of 41. See you all there! Dawn

Hey, it's Angie from rodeo. I can't wait until we go to Williston. But, 6 weeks between rodeos is tooooo much for me! That's really long to have to wait. I'll try to find somethin' to do! ;) But anyways, I was wondering if you guys were going to post our results, points-wise, from Folkston, Lake City, and over all. I've been keeping track of my points, but I want to know where I stand in placings so far. Oh yeah, if anyone talks to Anna Lee tell her I said hi and she's in my prayers. Someone told me she had 3rd degree burns on her feet from a class science experiment. But, anyways, have fun and I'll see you at Williston! :D

Ok so I kinda fudged on the the two acts of congress but not on the phone calls....

The web site is not exactly like it was when it was lost. Give me a day or two to get everything back to normal. We are still working out some problems. Keep checking the home page for the most current news but also keep an eye here for any other news.

KIDS: GREAT first rodeo! Glad to see friends again, oh and you to Crusty. We need some arena help as always. Do not be afraid to come out and help. Have your western attire on and ask if you dont know where or what to do. We gladly accept any help. Some areas that always need help to make things run smoothly are POLE BENDING, GOAT Tying, and BARRELS. Timers are always welcomed to give some of the relief to the ladies working the bird house.

KIDS you too are welcomed in the arena. We need you to pickup hats, call out kids, etc. You will be welcomed in the arena between events or on another class just come on in.

SEE YOU ALL IN LAKE CITY!

The web site is down. It is not your PC at the moment. It is not anything wrong on the SJRA site itself but with the web hosting company. We are trying to work out the site moving to another company but it will take some time.

Please be patient. I am just as concerned about it being down as any of you.

ATTENTION GOAT TYERS: I have talked Ed Hughes (formerly Hawks Creek Arena) into having a jackpot goat tying. We're going to try it a couple of times in Aug. and see how it goes. He may then add it to his Buckle Series that include bull riding, steers, calves and sheep riding. The dates are Aug. 8th and Aug. 22 (Friday nights). It's just north of Hawthorne on CR 1474, not far from Ocala. Email me if you are interested, would be great practice for girls coming up into the FHSRA.

Just wanted to give everyone an update on Sunnie and thank everyone who has called, emailed or sent her a letter or card. We have been overwhelmed by the number of cards and letters that she has received from SJRA members! (You guys ROCK!!!) I can't tell you how much that has meant to us and it certainly brightened Sunnie's boring summer! A special thank you to everyone who has kept her in your prayers, we are extremely grateful. Everything is healing well and after her next visit (in a couple of weeks), her doctor is planning on giving her the O.K. to ride again! Sunnie is thrilled and after 8 weeks of basically doing nothing, she is so ready to be back in the saddle!!! Thanks again and we hope to see everyone soon!

Hey everyone, are you guys worn out as well? I just wanted to pass on some more thanks to the dads and moms that helped in pole bending picking up poles all year. It helped more than you know. Each rodeo you guys were there, even you CRusty.

The finals went pretty well or so Lisa and I thought. Also wanted to pass on that you Contestants did a really good job all year and I wanted to THANK YOU guys. I have really enjoyed watching you guys grow up, other than its making me older. I need you all to do a favor though, not for me, for the association. Pick some sponsors out and send them a thank you card. It will be 100 times easier next year to get a donation to support SJRA.

Enjoy your summer from rodeo and school, although keep practicing because the next rodeo year will be here before you know it.

Hey everybody!!!! I love rodeo soooo much! I can't wait for Jakin! If anybody has a CHEAP trail horse that is very laid back and not too old for sale, please let me know because my mom needs a trail horse BADLY. We're kind of on a budget so we need it to be 1500 or less. I had to train her trail horse for barrels and poles at the beginnig of rodeo because I didn't have a horse to use. Now me and the horse are really bonded and I don't want to give him up. I also have a black 12 year old Thororghbred-Quarter horse for sale. Good trail horse, jumps about 3'6, intermediate rider, $1000. Hate to see him go, don't have time anymore. Please, good home only. He's 15.2hh. SWEET boy,Zorro. Thank You, Angie (He DOES NOT do barrels or poles)

Please be aware that our next report card date is April 1. If you have already received a report card dated before April 1 and you haven't already given it to me, you must have it in Jakin. If you don't have it, you will not be able to ride. Make a copy of your report card and put it with you health certificate and coggins. If you mailed me a copy in the last couple of days, make another copy and bring it with you. The mail system can be slow so don't count on me getting it before I leave to go to Jakin. The points were done whithin 4 days last time that there were back to back Folkston Rodeos. We have the majority of it figured out, but would be nice if we could verify.

Hey guys just wanted to keep you informed about the raffle tickets. For those of you that did not get your tickets they are being printed now. I should have the mailed to you by Thursday.

We are asking everyone sell at least one book of tickets. This is a really neat product and will be really fun for whomever wins it. It also will benefit SJRA really well in the process.

Keep in mind the money needs to be turned back in to me. Also whoever sells the most tickets will win $100 cash. Keep your ticket stubs together so that I can keep up with the ones that you have sold.

Subject: Sponsorship Money

Author:

Hey I want to pass on a thought for everyone to think about between now and finals. We need everyone, this means every member, there family, and there friends, to help with sponsorship for this organization. We are in good shape according to past years but we are always struggling to keep sponsor monies coming in so that we can ALL enjoy this association. This needs to happen whether your a "finalist" or not. It takes a tremendous amount of money to keep this organization at the level its currently at and has been at. One reason that this association is so strong and so competitive is that in the past alot of sponsor money has come into this association. What I mean is that with a certain level of money (in the form of organization money) you get folks coming to this association because of good stock, payback, top awards that are normally not available at other organizations. They come to compete for these things which raises the level of competition for all of our kids. Raises the level to keep them competeting and coming back to be better each and every rodeo. Research other associations or ask around even to see what others give out and you will see we are really one of the top organizations for these things. The past years we have had some really good folks that raised some very big dollar amounts each year. It has been a blessing. Problem being alot of those folks have "outgrown" SJRA and moved on so now its up to us to carry forward that motivation. We need everyone to share this task and help out. Another reason for posting this is that there are so many organizations out there now that are all asking for money. The same money that we once received too. So they are spreading thin instead of sending lump sums to one particular place.

Anytime you purchase something or are a regular at a place of business, ask them. You will be surprised to see what folks can do if asked. We have some sponsorship sheets that I will add to the web site so that they can have a receipt. Remember the member who brings in the most money at the end of the year receives $100.

The Finals in Ocala brings in alot of money to this organization, normally. We hope to have some really good sponsors again this year that will continue that record. With finals in mind we also need ANY ITEMS $50 or more for the auction held on Saturday night. If you have never been to it you should plan to stay as long as you bring your check book! Its really a blast, we have sold everything under the sun in the past, pillows, hunts, fishing trips, hay, garden products, cigars, hats, show sheen, purple ladies belts, and even saddle racks for $200 each. The saddle racks go quickly to the hopeful saddle winners moms and dads. Honestly its good fun. The more that participate and bid is really what makes it fun and profitable for SJRA. So plan to attend and bid, keep bidding, even if it is to run up the bid on your best friend.

Keep these things in mind, and remember its never too early to ask for sponsor money.

Ok guys did any of you see the Robo Steer Bicycle Roping Brochure taped to the sign up table this weekend? Its really really COOL! A set of bicycles complete with saddle and reins. No handle bars! They do have trainging wheels for all of the adults that cant seem to stay off of them.

I have all the details coming together for one of these sets to be raffled off and the winner drawn at our FINALS in Ocala. I will have the brochures this weekend at Moultrie and hopefully the tickets as well. We are asking all members sell one book of tickets. This benefits all of US not just the finalist. You do not have to be present to win. The proceeds go towards SJRA. The tickets will be $5 each or a total book of $100. This set retails for $1900, so a $100 investment is pretty darn cheap if your the winner!

If you have not seen these guys please look at the sign up table this weekend in Moultrie or ask me about them. We also are going to have a set of "miniture" barrels for them as well. Maybe at Finals we could have a $10 barrel race with them?

Keep looking for the details and as soon as I can get them here I will take them to a rodeo and you guys can demo them!
