Subject: We have hardwood floors in the Kitchen. Had it refinished 25 years ago with a clear varnish. It survived a dog, a flood (while we were away!) and countless spills and drips.

It's only just beginning to need re-doing now. I love that it has one service (tiles have all those grooves) and so a quick swiffer gets most everything up. We have felt pads on the bottom of the table and chairs to help with scratches and a rug by the back door and by the sink to help with wear and tear and drips. I'd recommend it to anyone - no maintenance, looks great, long lasting (the real key in our book - we hate projects!)

Laminate can buckle pretty badly, especially if it gets wet so I'd avoid that.

  • I hate hardwood. Everything scratches it - dog's nails, everything. A water leak ruined a portion of it and we replaced with tile. I suspect some wood floors have better finishes than mine. (NT) -- hth, 12:48:35 07/25/16 Mon
  • My oak hardwood doesn't show scratches and wear much. It hides imperfections way better than the vinyl that was there. (NT) -- A little wear can give it some character., 21:13:00 07/26/16 Tue
