I see how it made sense years ago, but it doesn't any more. People feel as if their vote does not count. If we are voting to elect the president of the country, or other federal (rather than local) positions, then it should be a true head count- a popular vote that decides the election. Our entire election system is antiquated and the powers that be act as if it isn't changeable. Why is it unchangeable? I do think that many people who ended up voting for Trump do speak out against Trump's and other's racist or sexist comments. These people just aren't identified as "Trump supporters". The people identified as Trump supporters are the people who are making the racist/sexist comments. And that demographic of people are not going to change. There are many people who do not fall into that category and who (albeit reluctantly) voted for him.
