For me, the first thing I had to do was recognize that I do deserve down time. Our culture is very success oriented and sometimes we equate busy with good. Being productive and successful are important, but so is slowing down enough to enjoy life (even if that means sitting like a vegetable binge-watching a favorite show). Don't say "yes" to everything asked of you. Select the things that will have the most positive impact. Try to combine the must-dos with the want-to-dos. For example, reading a fabulous book in the car while your dancer is in class. Look at the things that are cluttering your life and taking up all your time. See if there is anything you can eliminate. Try to keep a calendar/schedule of the must-dos and ought-to-dos. Sometimes it helps to have it scheduled out to make it all manageable and to also remind yourself that the time in between is YOURS and you are not going to feel guilty about it. Also, as your children get older, there is nothing wrong with re-claiming yourself a bit as an actual person who has their own desires apart from being a parent. I don't think I really gave you any practical solutions. These are just my random thoughts as a busy mom myself.
