 Here is copy of an email sent to Lou Holland , one of the female workers in the building:
POLICE ISSUED
A gruop of rapists and date rapists in prison were interviewed on what they look for in a likely victim. Here are the intersting facts;
1.The first thing is hairstyle - Rapists go for pony tails as they are easily grabbed , then long hair then short.
2.The second thing is clothing , women whose clothing is easy to remove are viable targets. Many of the rapists carried scissors to cut the clothing as well.
3.They looked for distracted women ie on the mobile , searching purse or othwe things because they are off guard and can be easily overpowered.
4.The most likely time of attack is early morning between 05.00am and 08.30 am.
5.These men are looking to grab a woman and quickly move her to a different location where they wont need to worry about getting caught.
6.Only 2% said they carried weapons as Rape carries a 3-5 year sentence. Using a weapon carries 15 - 20 years. (note from Bryan - I would argue scissors constitutes a weapon myself!)
7.Putting up a fight discourages them as they will realise that you are going to resist them and thats time consuming.
8.These men said that they would not pick on women carrying Umberellas or the like as they can be used at a distance. Keys were not considered a deterent as you need to be in very close proximity to use them (Note from Bryan - Keys ARE useful if your being raped how much closer in proximity can you get!!!?)
9.If you are being followed or suspect you are look them in the face and make small talk or ask the time. They will then know that youve seen their face and could ID them in a line up - you instantly lose appeal as a target.
10. If it looks like attack is imminent hold your hands in front of you and make as much commotion as possible. Most Rapists spoken to said they were after an easy target not one who was unafraid to fight back!

ITS SIMPLE STUFF BUT COULD SAVE LIVES!

My thanks to LOu for bringing this to my attention. And if anyone is thinking of making crass and juvinile comments as a followup to this message please dont beacause this is a serious subject that affects many people.
