WHO: Any/All Teelin Irish Dance Company parents/adults who are willing and available (preferably those who can competently wield a hammer and a cordless drill)
WHAT: “Rain Stick Making Party”
WHEN: Tuesday, July 15th, 6pm until the rain sticks are complete (Summer Card adv soft shoe drills in the front studio 6-7pm)
WHERE: Teelin studio in Columbia (we’ll set up an assembly line in the back studio)
WHY: Maureen is choreographing a new dance for company entitled “Storm” which will incorporate the use of rain sticks. However, she has been unable to find durable rain sticks at a reasonable price, so we will be making them instead.
HOW: Robert has created a prototype rain stick, and Maureen will purchase all of the materials necessary to make 20 rain sticks. If you have a hammer and a cordless drill, please bring them.
RSVP: Kindly reply to this email to let us know if you will be able to help, and if you will be bringing a hammer and a drill.

- Three Important Reminders about Company... -- copied from an email, 14:04:09 06/03/08 Tue [1]
1) Final company rehearsal this Thursday, June 6th, from 6:15-7:30 pm. All 2008-2009 Red and Black Troupe dancers are welcome. Maureen will be teaching/reviewing Knock Knock (rather than Thunder as previously stated) for any dancer that needs to learn it for the first time or anyone that would like a refresher. Experienced Knock Knock dancers are also welcome to come and help teach. (No need for 2008-2009 Apprentice to attend since this is a Red/Black Troupe number).
2) All Company Dancers need to register for their appropriate Company Summer Camp ASAP. The dates of the camps are in your offer letter and on the website. Registration forms can be found at the Columbia Studio or on the Teelin website.
3) ALL Company Contracts are due no later than Thursday evening (June 5th). If Maureen does not have your signed company contract by Thursday she will assume you are declining your position. Please put signed contracts in the bottom file of the wall mounted file near the stereo in the front studio.

Congratulations to Lindsay Woodcock who is the newest staff writer for Hornpipe, a nationally published magazine on Irish Dance, Music and Culture in North America.
Lindsay is taking over the “Dancer to Dancer” column for Hornpipe and has already published her first article, “The Balancing Act” in this month’s magazine. (A copy will be posted on the Teelin Studio Bulletin Board this evening)

The Comhaltas Irish Dance Festival (more often called the CCE Feis), will be on Sunday, May 25, 2008 at Mount Saint Mary’s College, Emmitsburg, Maryland.
It is an extremely well run and enjoyable Feis and there will be a lot of “Teelinites” there both competing and helping to run the Feis.
Online registration begins on Tuesday, April 2, 2008, at 8:00am at:

Last year this Feis reached capacity in less than a day! If you don’t already have an eFeis account (it’s free), you should get one as soon as possible and register as early as possible on April 2!

Dancers, in the midst of this Irish version of March Madness, I hope that you realize some of joy that you bring to people with your performances…
Friday afternoon there were shows at two different senior centers, and audience members enjoyed the shows so much that they would have liked to keep you there all day just to watch you smile and dance, and then share stories about their own experiences with dance.
Friday night, the Congressional Country Club was very impressed by the show, and several members went out of their way to compliment the dancers and compliment Maureen. One person in attendance also sent an email today (Saturday) stating, “Each and every dancer was superbly trained, poised and beautifully in step with their fellow dancers. What a joy to see such talented young people perform together. The costumes were lovely and tasteful and we especially enjoyed the clean, youthful look of the young women with their natural hairstyles. Thank you for a lovely performance.”
And as Robin stated below, the audience at the Blackthorn Ceili was “wow’d” and made comments to Robin including, “I was blown away, just blown away." "It was so professional." "WOW."
Keep up the good work, dancers!!! Smile big and enjoy every moment of this St. Patrick’s Day season! We’re very proud of you!!!

Megan's school production of Cinderella is February 29th; she'll be using HER (Meagan) wig. One of the "ugly stepsisters" is a boy. They'd like to use a wig on him. Megan's older (Rachel) wigs need to be used over a pony tail, and he has a standard boys haircut. If anyone has a wig that could work with such a haircut, that is truly okay to be lent out for this -- please let Robin or Megan know. He's a dark blonde, but any color could possibly work.
FYI -- Cinderella will be performed at the Blackrock Center for the Performing Arts in Germantown, Maryland, at 7:00 p.m. on Leapday / Friday, February 29th. Tickets aren't needed; it's a free show, but will fill up quickly.
This will be a modified Rodgers and Hammerstein version of Cinderella, followed by a student-written "updated" version.

We are reversing the order of two classes. Tonight’s schedule will be:
4:45pm-5:45pm Nov/PW Competition Class (regular time)
5:45pm-7:00pm Company Red Troupe Rehearsal
7:00pm-8:30pm PW/Champ Competition Class

I hope that you are each enjoying the last few days of summer vacation!
Your faithful webmaster has been a bit remiss in updating the Company sections of the website lately. With the new school year beginning I hope to improve so that the website will be as helpful a resource as possible.
As of today, the Company Members section of the website has been updated EXCEPT for the Dancer Handbook, which is not quite ready to be printed. Dancers who are new to Company this year (or those who have short term memories and forgot last year’s instructions), please email me for the username and password to access this section.
Hopefully the Dancer Handbook will be ready for print soon and will be given to each dancer the first week of classes. A copy of the handbook (minus the directory, for security reasons) will also be posted to the Company Members website for convenience.
Thanks for using this Message Board to connect with each other! If you haven’t seen it yet, please read the message below this one and try to help Erin find her dress.

My oldest realized this morning that she does not have her soft shoes. She had them yesterday at company and figures practice, so likely someone inadvertantly picked them up after figures. They are Fays size 2.5, and I think I've got Steeley written on the inside of the shoes. Thanks!

Hi, All. This idea of a performance troupe is intriguing!
How big is your school? How established is it? Do the majority of students choose a 'track'...performance or competition or is there a lot of crossover? Is it a ton of work to do the practicing and scheduling? Do you have lots of beginners in the performance troupe or is it restricted to more experienced dancers?
As far as I know, our school only does one performance a year...on St. Patrick's Day. I love the idea of local performances.

- Roman (Apprentice Company) to perform in National Ballet's Coppelia this weekend -- Missy Mykyta, 20:56:28 04/15/07 Sun [2]
Roman, of the Apprentice Company, will be performing this weekend (20-21 April) in the National Ballet's (not to be confused with the Washington Ballet) Coppelia. This Hungarian folk ballet is a comedy about a toy maker who makes life size dolls so realistic that one of the town's cavaliers finds himself torn between his fiancé and a doll he spies in a window. The ballet is being performed by the professionals of the National Ballet Company and a few selected students, like Roman, who have been asked to participate. Roman has a significant role and has both a solo and another dance where he is featured.
If your schedule allows, please come and support him. This show is fun for the whole family. The performance dates are:
Friday, April 20 @ 10:00AM
Friday, April 20 @ 7:30PM
Saturday, April 21 @ 3:00PM
The ballet will be performed at the Hallam Theatre, located at the Prince George's Community College, Largo, MD. Tickets can be purchased at the door or by calling 301-261-0261 or 301-218-9822. General admission is $25.00 ($12.00 for children under 12).

Shows are April 18, 19, 20, and 21 at 7:30, and a matinee at 2 on the 21st. Tickets are $10 at the door.
