Aggressively emotional without sounding contrived or cliché, [The Oval Portraits] music is energetic and surprisingly experimental. THEPRP.COM
One of Eyeball Records newest bands The Oval Portrait is proud to announce their debut full length Life In Death. Taking their name from one of Edgar Allen Poes short stories these boys combine a morbid fetish with serial killers and dark literature to form their menacing quintet.
Label mate Jason Dezuzio from the Interference and Eyeball Records owner Alex Saavedra produced Life In Death. Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance lends his screaming vocals to Barnabas Collins Has More Skeletons In His Closet Than Vincent Prince. The album also features Murder By Death cellist Sarah Balliet and pianist Vincent Edwards making it a true Eyeball Records release.
Being a member of the tightly knit Eyeball family, The Oval Portrait has been already fortunate enough to share the stage with current and ex-label mates; Thursday, My Chemical Romance, and Murder By Death.
The Oval Portrait leaves a lasting impression on all of their victims. Their ominous lyrical themes collide with their intense metal, hardcore, and old school punk influences, and erratic live performance making them a band to keep an eye on in the year to come. Life In Death comes to a close with the contemptuous declaration of Id rather serve in hell than reign in heaven, leaving you to wonder where The Oval Portrait will strike next.
