Hi Lulu--

If you are going to Sanibel for a full week (Saturday to Saturday), you may want to consider renting a condo instead of a hotel especially since you have a 1-year old. I have been to Sanibel 4 times and have always rented a condo -- would never go back to a hotel room if I have an option. I have also checked out pricing at the Holiday Inn a while back. A very basic hotel room (no water view), actually would have cost me more for the week than the 2-bedroom condo I ended up renting which was directly on the beach with a large screened porch looking out at the ocean. Most of the condos also offer beach chairs/umbrella, games, beach toys, and some even have bicycles available. It's also good to have a washer/dryer and kitchen on the premises if you have kids. I know you mentioned you prefer eating out, but it's so convenient to have a frige and stove for quick snacks. You may want to check out the VRBO.com website (Vacation Rentals by Owners). You should be able to get a great rate for August since it's the slow season. Middle and West Gulf Drive is good if you want to be close to restaurants and stores.
