We saw a great sunset on Captiva – South Seas had a lot of construction going on…my favorite store had closed too. Sunset was awesome. We saw some alligators for the first time on Sanibel….heard a bunch too! Saw one right on the bike path (in the water) right before Casa Ybel. That was pretty cool. Saw another one on the bike ride….we think he might have been dead…..it looked like a baby?....seemed to be stuck in the mud…water was no where around. Saw a turtle….cute little thing…..he was making his way across the street…….got a great picture.
Visited our favorite stores on Sanibel…… Showcase of Shells, The Cheese Nook, Shops at Jerry’s, a new store called Mango’s…….had a lot of cool stuff for teenagers…good prices on Sanibel Tee’s…..a lot of Quicksilver type brands…perfect for teens. I bought a new swimsuit at Beachhouse Swimwear - a great store with great service. A lot of stores in Tahitian Gardens had closed…….but my FAVORITE store…not sure of the name…..the one in the corner…….was still open and had great stuff as usual. The gift shop by the Lighthouse Cafe was open – another favorite.
We also took a side trip one day to the Miromar Outlets – only about a 30 minute drive. We have never left the island during vacation, but it was worth it. The outlets were so pretty and had great stores. I highly recommend it to any of you shopoholics out there.
We also realized that Jerry’s sells great cookies & doughnuts to snack on at night. We would stop and get a cookie from the bakery each night (when we weren’t getting ice cream from Dairy Queen) and eat it on the porch.
The shelling was OK. It never really stormed enough to bring up a lot of shells. We had rain all day on Sunday, but that was it. After that – it never rained and it was beautiful everyday. We found some murex, augers, scallops, a few King’s Crown. Only found some very small whelks. I just can’t get over the weather. It was so beautiful. The water was pretty murky and seaweedy until maybe Wednesday and then…….WOW! It was the prettiest green I have ever seen. It was so shallow, that people were way out in the water. I can’t describe in words how pretty that water was the last part of our trip. Saturday was the prettiest. A lot of boats were out too. Oh, we walked all the way to the Lighthouse one day……that was quite a walk.
Part of our hotel package was a food credit to use at the hotel next door. We ate lunch several times at the Take 5 Pool Bar. The Tuna Salad sandwich is awesome. The lady that tends the bar is very nice as well. Also part of our hotel package was a Sunset Cruise with Adventures in Paradise. We saw some dolphins and a beautiful sunset. So that was a nice way to end of our trip.
Like I said, Sanibel has done an incredible job cleaning up after the Hurricane. Our beaches up here still look like a war zone…many places still closed and debris is still everywhere. I think the people that run Sanibel need to come teach our leaders how to run a city! There is no need to worry about vacationing on Sanibel this year. It looks great. From what I could tell, Sundial was open with a lot of construction going on – Windows & Noopies are closed. Only a couple other hotels/condos seemed to be closed with construction. And Song of the Sea is open & looks great. Everything is so clean, new & refreshed. I highly recommend it. We had a great time. And now the countdown begins – 365 days to go!
