In general, the price of accommodations on Sanibel has always been a bit high, IMO. In my case, it is exacerbated by singledom.

Most places are designed for multiple people - either families, or else people splitting the costs. Where does that leave someone like me - I usually vacation by myself when I go to Sanibel. There are not too many places that are sized for one person and priced for one person.

Where on Sanibel can a person stay in decent, clean accommodations that are under a hundred dollars a night? Not much of anywhere! Oh there are a few, but that sort of price can only be had for off-beach accommodations.

It does seem odd that there is a desire to encourage tourism to bring the island's economy back, yet the prices have risen. This doesn't make a lot of sense, in terms of the laws of supply and demand. If demand is up, then prices should be up. But if demand is down, then prices should fall so as to be attractive, and encourage consumption.

I don't know what to make of it!
