For anyone tempted to fork out the money to buy the newly-released 50th Anniversary Blu Ray Steelbook edition of Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho, let me tell you now: it is well worth the money. Not only are the extras plentiful (including a great The Making Of featurette), but the actual picture quality/sharpness of the movie is incredible!
For anybody even remotely familiar with this film you will see the massive improvement in the quality.
The 50th Anniversary Special Edition Steelbook (Blu Ray) (released by Universal; catalogue number: 827 863 5) includes:
*The film restored and remastered in high definition
*Original 16:9 ratio
*Documentary: Remastering Psycho HD
*The Making Of Psycho
*In The Master's Shadow: Hitchcock's Legacy
*Hitchcock/Truffaut Interviews
*Newsreel Footage: The Release Of Psycho
*The Shower Scene: With And Without Music
*The Shower Sequence: Storyboards by Saul Bass
*The Psycho Archives
*Posters And Psycho Ads
*Lobby Cards
*Behind The Scenes: Photohraphs
*Publicity Shots
*Psycho Theatrical Trailer
*Psycho Re-Release Trailers
*My Scenes
*Feature Audio Commentary with Stephen Rebello (Author of 'Alfred Hitchcock And The Making of Psycho')
and if that isn't enough for you, you have the option to watch the film with the newly-constructed 5.1 dts-HD soundtrack too.
Retails in the UK for about £18
In terms of bonus features and picture quality I would have to rate this release as one of the very best Blu Rays so far released. My opinion.
Lord Heath.
