IMDb is what hooked me on the net back about 2000 as well. I still have some old books that are just compilations of acting credits--you'd look up an actor and there would be a chronological list of the movies he was in. Very primitive, but almost like a printed IMDb. And does anyone remember to old movie books from the pre-VCR days that showed hundreds of screenshots from a famous movie, like The Maltese Falcon? It's almost impossible to explain the concept today when almost all movies are easily available to see, but they were like a proto-Aveleyman.
