The last time I saw Culloden it was on a dodgy quality VHS, so I was very pleased to see it on DVD.

Culloden concerns the 'last battle' on English soil, the supression of the Jacobite rebellion in 1746.

the gimmick, although not new (Walter Cronkite was doing a similar thing in the late 50s), is that a film crew is on the scene interviewing and filming the proceedings.

The film has an astonishing feel of 'reality' and between the bloody-mindedness of the Highlanders and the blood thirstiness of the English, the stage is set for a slaughter.

A great war film or a great documentary? Both if you ask me.
