If you live in the a place that supports a parent in spanking it's not so hard, but if you live in a place where all she has to do is tell someone at school and the system will come down on you - it's not a real option. Is she subject to getting the paddle at school? Does your church support it? Do you have friends,family and neighbors that have your back?
If you grew up in a setting that supported it more and you don't live in one now that's the difference you feel.
All my daughters teachers know they get paddled at home and they're very supportive. In fact they paddle them at school with the expectation that they will get it again at home.
I know very well that most places in the country don't support parents disciplining their kids so you may be right that it's just not going to happen.
