I find this quality to be the opposite of assuring...I find it neurotic and pervy and creepy for a father to basically signal "I'm an animal and can't be trusted with the sight of my own child's naked body."

Anyone can take the humiliation angle too far, and I think my parents did. But it's far more common to go too far in the opposite direction. A normal parent should not recoil from the sight of their own child, naked or not. If they do, something has gone wrong in their cultural conditioning.
