Imagine that! I wonder how many people after 3 weeks out of an alcohol/drug treatment program can say that with conviction. (I know most Schick grads can.)
Some of you have already heard about how great I've been feeling since I left SSH. But , I thought I would share with others.
The day I went home from SSH the world seemed to be a different place. It was almost surreal. Colors seemed a little brighter and more soothing. I felt calm and able to see other people in a different light. A couple of friends, my son, and I went out for Indian food that evening. The food even tasted better. (Probably because it really was....hehe) One of the hosts came over to our table to try to talk us into buying a bottle of wine with our meal and I giggled. I giggled becasue, not only did I not want any, but because I had just finished with Duffy #5 that morning. Later that evening, I realized that before, when I had been drinking, a little voice inside my head would have said "yes!" to that bottle of wine, but, this time that little voice wasn't even there.
All during that week following treatment I felt almost giddy at times- smiling alot from the joy I was getting from the little things I had stopped noticing before while I was in the alcohol bubble. I even enjoy music more now, like I used to when I was a kid.
It's been a couple of weeks since then now and I still feel great, even though I'm noticing some old behaviors gained while drinking that I now need to modify.
How was it for you your first week out in the "real" world?
