Subject: Cold and Flu season

For those of you who may experience a cold or flu this season and are wondering what to take to relieve symptoms while remaining drug/alcohol free, I had a suggestion made to me by another grad who swears the product Airborne works wonders. I've seen it in my grocery store so I know it comes over the counter.
I would also like to suggest that if you have not already done so you should check into seeing a Naturopath (N.D.) or an M.D. that has some background in naturopathic health care. My own experience with N.D.'s has been very positive. Generally N.D.'s take a more holistic approach to health care, which means they pay close attention to all the things that go on in peoples lives, and are not just focused on one symptom or one body part. Also, they focus a great deal on liver care. (My own N.D. actually sees SSH as a rather holistic approach to problem alcohol/drug use.) Most insurance companies cover, to some extent, N.D. care now.
For those of you in the Seattle area, I have posted a link to an N.D. clinic on the web-site. Also, a good idea would be to visit Kathleen S.'s Recoveru.(Link also on web-site.) Kathleen is a holistic health counselor who also happens to be a long time graduate of SSH. So she has a better understanding of what is needed specifically for those who have a history of long time drug/alcohol use. I'm sure she could point you in the right directions for managing your own care without any drug/alcohol use.
For those of you who do not live in the Seattle area, I would suggest visiting these sites anyway. I believe there is contact info. on those sites and they probably would be willing to give you good referrals for other parts of the country.
Another good resource for referrals, whether you live in the Seattle area or elsewhere, is Bastyr College. This is the nations most prestigious college for aspiring N.D.'s and other natural health care pros. I have some knowledge of what it takes for students to get into this college. I would trust a grad from there with my health care any day. Go to http://www.bastyr.edu/ and click on patient care or resousrces and services. This link is on the web-site also.
