I saw a slew of postings on the Guru board and it spiked my curiousity. Some posters (mostly anonymous, of course) on the Guru board seem to get a little over-dramatic about things. Since I actually "know" some of you guys, I feel your opinions matter a more. Or at least to me, they matter more. =)

So my questions:
*Are tats "illegal" in any pageant system? I'd think not, but are they frowned upon enough that a girl won't win because of a tattoo?
*Do all the systems encourage their contestants to cover up their tattoos while competing onstage?
*Do you think the idea of tattoo's comes of as tacky or cheap for a Miss America? for Miss USA? for Miss Universe?for Miss World? for Mrs. America?
*Do you think the "uber-conservative" idea of tattoos/ other "rebelious" behaviors are outdated and should not be made an issue because it's now 2009? Or should our girls be as close to the perfect ideal of a role model/professional?

Just wondering your opinions. Feel free to weigh in on whatever you'd like...

I just read this on the Arkansas board and I'm so shocked and saddened. One of the chaperones for Miss Arkansas, Sarah Nail, lost her 10 year old grand daughter due to complications from swine flu. Sarah is a staple of the MAO organization in our state and we love her dearly. If you would please think of her during this time and send prayers and warm thoughts her way. She is a very special part of Miss Arkansas and of the Miss White River Association open prelim in Arkansas.

I just don't know what to say about this. We all love Sarah so much.

Been gone for a while ... but noticed that my state's MO USA pictures have been posted ... here are my top 5.

There are A LOT of MAO crossovers this season. We have 2 former MO-OT's competeing (Mary Bauer and Sydney Stottlemyre). Sydney was the 4th runner up @ MAOT 2008, and Mary was 4th runner up in Miss this year. We also have a bunch of girls who competed this year at MO MAO in Miss. It should be intresting to see how these ladies fare in this form of competition versus MAO.

TEEN:

Madison Hill (1st RNR MOTUSA 08)
Sydney Stottlemyre (MO OT 08, 4th RNR MAOT)
Mary Bauer (MO OT 07)
Theresa Huellinghorst (Sister of Breanna, MO TUSA 07)
Nicole Nolan

MISS: (all returning from former placements at MO USA)

Ashley Strohmier
Rachael Shinabargar
Amy Forrest
Jessica Brundridge
Danielle Bounds

My picks for winners are Ashley Strohmier (I think she can put Missouri back on the map) and Sydney Stottlemyre (I've always thought this girl was USA material, she's gorgeous).

The episode with Donna, former Miss SC state and her daughter was really touching. About growing up more than pageants. I couldn't believe it when her daughter showed up on stage in her mother's dress from a pageant 20 years ago? That was so sad. Hopefully mom watches the show.

My thoughts: For teen, I think Sydney Stottlemyre can easily walk away with the title--she will be hard to beat. For Miss, I think it will be a battle between Ashley Strohmier, Danielle Bounds, and Amy Forrest. I think Rachel Shinabargar and possibly a new girl will round out the top 5.

Hi everyone. I am competing in a state pageant (Miss USA system) for the first time next month and I need some tips on how to do well in the interview. I have these questions and I was wondering if any of you could provide some answers that may help me advance in the competition.

1. What should my bio sheet say about me?
2. Do I need to shake a judge's hand?
3. What kind of questions will I most likely hear in a pageant interview?
4. What not to say to a judge???
5. What do judges want to know about me and what should I do to make them like me?
6. How long should my answers be?
7. What should I say when I don't know the answer to a judge's question?
8. What should be my opening and closing statements?
9. What should I wear?

Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you all! :)

There are tons of titleholders throughout our nation involved in Breast Cancer Awareness. Honor them and reinforce their enthusiasm for this cause by doing something special for them......send them a muffin basket, or take them out to lunch. Show these ladies that their efforts have not gone unnoticed, and are greatly appreciated!

It seems as though there is a lot of information missing for the ladies who are thinking of getting into pageantry, and nearly as much missing for the ladies who are already involved. Everyone is looking for what judges might think or which pageant has the best prizes. Of course, there are groups of women who are just curious as to which pageants hold substance and which are just fluff. As the pageant season is coming to a close, I'm curious as to what type of information other members of the pageant community are looking for, and how they would like to see it expressed. Sometimes the boards can get a little nasty, and some boards will remove messages that they feel are too negative toward a particular system. So, what do you feel is the best way to express information, even if the experience is negative, in a way that can be beneficial to other potential competitors?

Ok I just got home and here is my rundown...

First and foremost..Alyssa Campanella and Rachael Carolla were NOT part of the Top 5!!! Realizing that Alyssa hadn't made the cut was like taking a bullet. I can understand her not winning but NOT top 5?? She looked amazing. She wore an orange SS and the gown Kristen Dalton wore in her pictures for Miss Universe. It was stunning.

4th RU: I don't even remember her name. WTF WTF WTF WTF I have NO words. The only good thing was she was wearing Kristens Miss USA dress...but she did cut the front short and wear closed toe shoes...and trip on stage. How she got in over the others is beyond any comprehension.

3RU Krista Richmond: She looked fantastic. Her gown was gorgeous. I competing with her back in MAO and am so proud of her!! She has aged out now and I know she will be successful in modeling. I think at the end of the day her beauty is enough to get her into the Top 5 but she lacks that extra sparkle in presentation to singe the crown.

2RU Emily Weprich: She was really fantastic. Just an overall excellent pageant performance. I had her picked to win out of the Top 5.

1RU Lindsey Reisenberg: You could see her literally fighting for that crown. She wanted it sooo bad and it showed. She made a huge improvement from last year. Her SS body was fantastic. She was alittle over animated in facial expressions and her voice inflections in her OSQ but she was amazing!!

WINNER: Chenoa Greene: I think she is really a deserving winner. I wasn't a fan of her styling and gown but she has tons of potential..she was confident onstage..spoke well.I think with added polish she could sneak into the Top 15 at USA.

Honorable Mention: Vanessa Baez. She looked fabulous!!! She's an MAO girl and really turned it on for USA and sealed her position in the Top 15. I really hope she wins the Miss New Jersey MAO crown one day!!!

There are a number of new sponsors this year and we will announce them as soon as they become confirmed but the first big news is the edition of Tony Bowls for Mon Cheri as our evening gown sponsor. Our partnership will mark a first in pageant history as all of the top ten finalists in the MISS competition will be outfitted in a Tony Bowls creation during the telecast, even if they are not already wearing one. That’s right, you just heard me correctly. We will be taking all of the MISS measurements at orientation and the day before the show the designer will receive the measurements of the top fifteen finalists. Prior to the broadcast, he will pick out the appropriate wardrobe for all fifteen girls and ready them so that the 10 advancing on into the evening gown competition will have a dress to wear from the designer’s collection. You will be wearing your own gown during preliminaries but if you are a MISS and you are not wearing a Tony Bowls gown the night of finals but end up making the top ten, you will be given one to wear and must wear that dress for the telecast. For those of you who have not already purchased your evening gown, I would strongly suggest that you go on to his website, www.tonybowls.com and consider one of his creations. The store listings are there as well. If you do end up wearing a Tony Bowls evening gown and you are called into the top ten, you are able to wear your own or opt for the assigned dress instead. We will also attempt to have his creations available for you to try on and order at orientation. We are so excited to have this talented designer and look forward to our relationship together.

This year’s show is being done with a 60 foot runway extension to the stage, so brush up on your walk ladies. We are creating a fashion show theme to compliment the excitement of the designer changes we are making. More news to follow, so stay tuned!

Our very own NC Gal has been chosen to play "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire" to be taped Nov. 6 in NYC!!! This has been a long process that lasted for months - she had to survive three grueling auditions and a lengthy interview process in order to be considered as a contestant. And today she finally got the call!

NC Gal has previously competed on "The Weakest Link" and WON, so she's obviously got the smarts necessary to do well on this show, too. But if you need to phone a friend, call TNBoy who can quickly post the question to the board and relay the answer!!!

CONGRATULATIONS, NC GAL, AND GOOD LUCK!!!
