Subject: I'm not a judge but heres my 2 cents anyway...Each pageant and photo contest has a different judging rubric in which they score the photos. The rubric in pageants may not be the same as those in contests. Be sure to ask the director exactky what the judges are looking for so that you can enter a pic accordingly. In photo contests the quality of the photo may not be as clear as in person so that may also be a factor. Also, just because your child doesn't place does not mean that their photo didn't score high. Be sure to ask for your scores in pc's so that you can see why your photo didn't place. One more thing...In pc's (especially natural) your photos are competeing with photos from different states and sometimes even from different countries.

My daughter has won most of the major online photo contests. And not with just one picture, and not just with glitz. She's won GRAND with photos from at least five different photographers online and she can hold her own with any of the competition. Yet we go to a pageant, and she barely places at all in photogenic. Her pics are definitely not overdone, we try to focus on the face, and frankly I'm very, very, picky about what I even have retouched.

Even her stageshots beat the "big name kids" but when we go to a pageant, it's like she's totally invisible. She has a huge happy smile, but gets beaten by kids who don't smile, can't model as well etc. The only feedback we've gotten from her coach (one of the TOP coaches at that) is that she squints a little too much onstage.

Now tell me judges, is squinting slightly THE offense that even great modeling, a pretty face, great clothes etc cannot overcome?? She can't really help it, because she's smiling REAL and not fake.

Our coach tells us not to wear a flipper, yet gets beaten at nationals by kids who wear one.

She wins up to Grand at pageants all the way up to Nationals, but the National judges seem to go out of their way NOT to see her!

I would love to get some real feedback.

We went to a National a couple of months ago and I asked the judge for feedback and she said my daughter needed to wear something "bright" and "interesting", maybe in "pink" and she had this REALLY funky outfit on that happened to be bright pink with mixed and matched black and white material AND a top hat with streamers LOL...

I'm beginning to think Nationals ARE a PR game.

Perhaps I'm losing my objectivity, but up to the mini-national level and online, she beats kids who have consistently won national supremes. But she gets to a National and can barely/rarely get a novice title.

I would love to know what the heck we can do to fix this, our coach hasn't been a lot of help. She just keeps drilling beauty, but the kids who win over my child aren't as good modeling as my daughter (and no, I don't even flatter myself she'll get a supreme, we are happy if she takes division)
