Subject: Help....Portfolio...themes or plain

Ok..my daughter is now 4 and we are having the hardest time getting a good portfolio together. We have been told so many different things. I know that you need a variety, but should each photo have a theme or just show a different personality with facial expression, clothing on a plain background. She loves to model clothes..but I don't think them photos work..would they? We have yet to get a winning port together..and I'm just lost on what the judges are looking for. Any help or suggestions would be appericated. This is for nautral pageants.

[> DD (about the same age) has won her age division in portfolio at a national natural pageant 2x. I am her photographer (I do have some formal training though) What the judges always liked about her's was that it showed who she is. Beach , playground , park, dance, gymnastics, taekwondo.... this age is easy to come up with ideas for. Show lots of personality (but not over the top) and be original. Now don't use snapshots (unless they are exceptional), you should consider composition, and clarity but NO retouching or makeup. You should be able to look at the portfolio and say it captures all the sides of your child. My favorite and the judges is one of my DD looking out to sea with a pensive look on her face in a white flowing dress. So don't just smile or make goofy faces. If stuck for ideas look at calenders or books of photographs of children. They can give you a good idea of what the photos should convey. Good Luck!! -- No name, 06:50:50 03/09/07 Fri [1]
