I think everyone is excited about learning who the new Miss Egypt Universe 2008 will be on May 24th.
I have full confidence in the judges and organizers to select the best woman to compete in Vietnam, but I thought it would be beneficial to bring up some strategic points before the selection is made.
As we all know, there are only 2 ways to do well at Miss Universe.
1. SASH FACTOR/RELATIONS WITH MUO
Ex. Puerto Rico, Canada, Dominican Republic, Japan, Venezuela, USA etc.
2. LOOKING UNIQUE/STUNNING
Ex. Korea, Brazil, Angola, Tanzania, etc.
Miss Egypt falls into the 2. category, which is fine since Egyptian women are gorgeous and always carry an aura of mystery, elegance, and beauty.
Since appearance is what will gain attention (from MUO officials, media, and fans) it is essential that the Egyptian representative has a toned, lean, and fit body. Unfortunately, Miss Universe is no longer about personality (even though they lie and say it is). It's all about looks, looks, and looks (to place) and all about money, money, and money (to win)! =)
So I think that Miss Egypt Universe 2008 should have the best 'model-esque' body in the bunch and should also have a good metabolism so that she is able to maintain of even better her figure by the time she has to go to Vietnam.
I also want to bring up another point, which is geographical competition. Miss Universe shares a similarity to Miss World in that every year, at least one delegate from a certain geographical region is included in the Top 15. The only difference is Miss Universe is more subtle about their selections and they don't crown a Queen of a Region.
If we take a look at EGYPT's region of AFRICA and THE MIDDLE EAST, we can see that 2008 is an extremely weak year. This is based on candid (non-airbrushed) photos that can be found on the internet.
As of May 19th, 2008:
ANGOLA: Lesliana Pereira
GHANA: Yvette Nsiah
ISRAEL: Shunit Faragi
NIGERIA: Stephanie Oforka
S.AFRICA: Tansey Coetzee
TANZANIA: (To be crowned)
TURKEY: Begüm Kiziltuð
*We also must remember that Miss CANADA is of Iranian descent so her inclusion may kill two birds with one stone as she can represent the Americas and the Middle East.
From the above list, CANADA has the ties with MUO but based on looks, TURKEY is the front-runner, followed by SOUTH AFRICA, should MUO want representation by a black African. But there is no real powerhouse in this region as of yet.
This is why I truly feel that if EGYPT sends a stunner, she'll lead this geographic region and slide right into the semi-finals because her true competition is her geographic region.
So in the end, I am excited to find out who will wear the EGYPT sash in Vietnam! I know that who ever is chosen will have a great time and look wonderful. But I truly think that this is EGYPT's prime opportunity to use the weak competition to their advantage. Pageants are all about strategy and luck so I hope that we get to hear EGYPT's name announced this year! Good luck to all the contestants!
