SCANDALE IN MISS WORLD!!! REALLY SHOCKING,THE RUMOR WAS TRUE
by Miss Universe 1000 B.C on 2007-12-05, 03:00:14 am
I remove all good things I said about Julia Morley. She's just a PIMP!!! I've lost all respect for her. All Miss World stuff is just a hypocrisy and show off. CHARITY MY FOOT! You hide your real face under charity you bitch! You're just a mother whore Julia!

I ADVISE ALL NATIONAL PAGEANT DIRECTORS TO BE VERY CAREFUL SENDING THEIR DELEGATES TO MISS WORLD, AND YOU MAY EVEN ASK YOUR LOCAL REPRESENTANT IF WHAT HAPPENED WAS NOT TRUE. THEY MAY BE EMBARASSED TO SAY WHAT HAPPENED BECAUSE OF THEIR REP*TATION, BUT THIS SHOULD BE STOPPED SO AS IT DOES NOT HAPPEN AGAIN IN THE FUTURE!

THE RUMOR WAS TRUE!!!

Once somebody came to say about the girls had to sit with old man etc...MY FRIEND WHO IS MISS OF MY COUNTRY CONFIRM ME THIS AND SORRY I CANNOT SAY FROM WHICH COUNTRY I AM NOR WHICH MISS IT IS, I HOPE YOU UNDERSTAND THIS.

LISTEN to my friend...

First we were told to dress up for dinner but we were'nt told where we were going or what we are gonna be doing.. only to find out when we got to the venue.. we were being showcased at a sponsor dinner.. whom the guests ARE ONLY MEN, old chinese men.. then after that they made us sit down at a table with 10 men, just me and my roomate, sitting separately from each other.. which we found very uncomfortable.. if that wasn,t enough.. we got HARASSED.. literally being touched in the wrong places, grabbing us, grabbing my ass.. they were so rude, ignorrant and uncivilized.. soo we went to our head of security to complain.. then they put me and some of the girls who felt uncomfortable to side because we were being harrased.. then we were supposed to leave BUT NOOOO.. Mrs. Julia Morley said we had to go back to our tables and sit back down.. which i totally refused to do.. only to find out that these men paid $400 dollars for us each so that we can sit down and let them violate us.. some of the girls were being cornered, their boobs being grabbed, one of the one of the girls got dragged on the floor as if we were dogs.. i felt like a prostitute.. SECURITY didn't even bother to help us.. Thanks to our chaperons, because they were the only ones who thought the situation was disgusting aside from us.. finally they decided that we can go back to the hotel after waiting for about 2hours of arguing if we could leave.. when were on the bus home.. the son of the owner comes up and says they apologize and didn't know that was going to happen.. and that we were going to the beach tomorrow to have fun as if we were upset kids, if given candy we'll be happy again.. i thought it was completely bullshit and so did some of the other girls so we decided to have a talk with the organization about this fiasco.. a group of us went up to the office to discuss the issue, stressing on our points and telling them how we felt.. the ORGANIZATION couldn't give us a perfect explanation as to what happend.. they were un sincere and plastic.. because clearly it was impossible for them not to know what it really was, they were putting us into.. All for the money.. they had to put us in an enviroment which made us feel inferior of who we are.. they couldn't explain it because for 1. they didn't tell us what the occasion was about, because if they did i would have refused to go. 2. they had sitting arrangements 2 girls per table sitting separately to 10 men. 3. Not enough security to protect us. 4. we were sold to our sponsors for $400 each. 5. one of the girls got dragged on the floor as if we were dogs. 6. Completely harassed and violated as a person and as women. AND they say "MISS WORLD" is all about "respect for women, femininity, equality" bullshit if they had us go through that.. with that said, i dont care about winning the crown anymore if it means losing my respect as a woman and as person.. what dissapoints me most.. is most of the girls didn't complain to the office even if they were violated all because they want to win that stupid crown.. i believe they have eaten up they're pride and lost respect in themselves all because they were scared.. i made the decision to speak up.. i just think that people should know what happend to us because clearly it is NOT RIGHT..

IS JULIA MORLEY A PIMP?
By Rafael Delfin: Critical Beauty

That is the question that is raised by many pageant fans who are reacting with disgust to a posting in several message boards.

This posting alludes to an ugly incident in Miss World involving several candidates who had been sexually harassed by drunken and lascivious Chinese men during a dinner party.

This unfortunate situation is substantiated by Miss Norway Lisa Marie Moen Jünge in her blog in Norwegian (see the November 22 entry entitled, " En Laaang Oppsummering."), and suggests that security in Miss World is poor.

A reliable source also informed me that Miss Sierra Leone Fatima Turay had been caught stealing from the other contestants and that nothing was done to reproach or discipline her.

Has Miss World turned into a world of forced prostitution and theft?

Subject: Miss World '07: A masterpiece

The article below was written by an Englishman, considering the fact that Miss World is from Great Btitain:

Miss World '07: A masterpiece

By: ALLY ROSS - Sun Columnist
Published: 07 Dec 2007

FEW of you will have known it was on. Less will have watched, and almost no one will care about the result. But sometimes you’ve just got to ignore the facts and celebrate a genuine television masterpiece.

Miss World 2007. The 57th such contest. A landmark event now shamefully wedged between a triple bill of Strike It Rich and a Bullseye repeat on Challenge TV.

Which means I could, frankly, make up every single Miss World detail, and none of you lot would be any wiser. The truth, as often though, is a bit more off the wall.

So, please, take it from me that the Miss World judges and dignitaries included: Julia Morley, “Broadcasting expert Annabel Croft”, “the multi-talented Duckajays from Blue” (plain old Duncan James to you and me).

"Beady"
And former President of South Africa Nelson Mandela, who spent a lonely and bewildering night frantically keying the words “ROBBEN ISLAND PRISON” into his sat-nav. Venue was Sanya, in China, where our hosts were Angela Chow, yapping away at Challenge viewers in Mandarin, and “one of Latin America’s great entertainers”.

A blow-dried smarm-bucket called Fernando Allende, who might as well have been Tony Ferrino, casting his beady eye over “108 of the world’s most beautiful women”.

Usual rules mostly applied. There was a beachwear round, some interview guff about the importance of “inner beauty,” and a parade of girls in “national-themed costumes” (Miss Sudan in a teddy?).

Then came the new stuff. A Krypton Factor-style raft-building competition, followed by a talent contest. Definitely THE highlight of the entire night. With my stand-out performer being Miss Hungary, a contortionist from Budapest who flat-packed herself to Kung Fu Fighting by Karl Douglas.

Others to catch the eye? Miss Scary Mary from Indonesia throttling an Alicia Keys song. The Puerto Rican bird who “loves discipline” (good), but thinks “you should also paint your dreams” (bad).

And Miss Angola, a hotly tipped gal until the host asked her: “40million people are watching. What’s your message to the world?” And she replied, without blinking: “Good night everybody.” Still, something for everyone there, I think. The world united in the great international sport of laughing at funny foreigners.

The only two things missing? A BBC camera crew and a drunk Terry Wogan. For it would, after all, be less backward-looking, and more entertaining, than bringing back To The Manor Born. Just don’t go expecting it to reappear any time soon.

Auntie’s Berlin wall of political-correctness still stands in its way. They think Miss World demeans women, almost as much as I think EastEnders demeans men, and the Eurovision Song Contest probably demeans us all. None of which is any reason to ban these TV shows, of course, which are much loved by millions of viewers.

However, if the BBC, or anyone else, is still looking for a genuine reason to banish Miss World from mainstream television? Then it arrived, with a thud, at the end of Saturday’s show. A contest held in China, with a Chinese judging-chairman, was won by . . . Miss China.

A strange, jug-eared, Mrs Tickle figure, who you may not be surprised to know, also won Best Chinese Outfit section. And if you think that’s fishy? Then get a load of this, boat people. Miss Vietnam won the raft-building.

THE NEW MISS WORLD is Zhang Zilin, 23, of the People's Republic of China, who was crowned in her own country last Saturday night in Sanya's Beauty Crown Theatre. Zilin is a Beijing secretary who was born in the northern industrial city of Shijiazhuang. The first runner-up is Micaela Reis, 18, of Angola and the second runner-up is Carolina Moran of Mexico. The other two finalists are Annie Oliv of Sweden and Valene Maharaj. Zhang is the first participant from the Far East to have won the coveted title; she's also the first winner to come from a country led by a communist party. Over 100 countries competed in this year's pageant which was held in Sanya for the fourth time. Organizers said was watched by a global television audience of two billion people. This year's competition took place on World AIDS Day, as organizers said they wanted to use the pageant to help raise awareness about the ongoing fight against the disease.

A blog by Zhang on the Web portal Sina.com had over 1 million hits as of Sunday, with many fans posting their congratulations. "You've brought honor to our country! We're all happy for you! We're proud for China!" wrote a fan named "Tango." Zhang exclaimed, "I'm the first Chinese to win the title and more importantly I won in my own country,” said Zhang, resplendent in a sparkling, pale pink dress as she addressed the media on her first full day on the job as Miss World 2007.

There were quite a few surprises. Ada Aimee de la Cruz, of the Dominican Republic, who had been the leading choice of British bookmakers, only made it as a semi-finalist. There was also a tie between Valeska Saab of Ecuador and Ka Yi Cheung of Hong Kong China - both women were awarded the Beauty With the Purpose award and automatically advanced to the semifinals. Jurgita Jurkuté of Lithuania, a heavy favorite, failed to crack the finals. It was reported that Jurkuté had been seen by MWO Chairperson Julia Morley dancing with a man, which killed her winning chances. She also informed the MWO staff that she had accepted an offer to host her own TV show in her country. The remaining semifinalists were the representatives from the United States, Ghana, Austria, Grenada, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Malaysia and Venezuela.

• WORLDLY COMMENTS : I saw bits and pieces of the live telecast of Miss World on a Vietnamese online channel, but the streaming was so bad that I was getting impatient. Then I was chatting with a friend via MSN Messenger who gave a me a link to a Pakistani TV site that offered a continuous and smooth broadcast. The pageant was not shown live on U.S. television, and it will probably take another week or two before the delayed broadcast is shown on cable, just like last year and the year before. The stage looked phenomenal from a distance, the hosts were substantially good, and the performers were passable, but the overall pace of the show was slow and anti-climactic.

Now let's get to the nitty-gritty about the results. China won for several factors. First, she possesses the traits that MWO is looking for - grace, elegance, beauty, sweetness, and humility. MWO will never choose a girl who has a strong personality, who complains or who will give them trouble; China seems to be a girl who's good in following orders; after all, she's a secretary! Second, it is not coincidental that her winning is a prelude to a much bigger international event - the 2008 Summer Olympics - that will take place in Beijing. Morley can make millions by peddling Zhang to the Olympic sponsors; I can see her carrying PRC's flag as she leads the Chinese team into the stadium. This is no different from when Amelia Vega won Miss Universe in 2003 and appeared three months later in the Pan American Games held in her home country, the Dominican Republic. Third, China's winning is MWO's way of thanking the Chinese for having spent millions of dollars in hosting the pageant for four years.

And what about the other girls who placed? Angola made it - not because of her beauty - but because MWO needs a mouthpiece in Africa to promote HIV/AIDS awareness. This is not surprising, since her bio states that "she is an ambassador of hope for people whose lives have been affected by HIV." When Sweden was called as a finalist, you could hear a pin drop in the theater. One can only assume that Sweden is Morley's "pet" this year, since she hardly registered as one of the favorites. Puerto Rico's inclusion did not have anything to do with merit as much as it had to do with favoritism, thanks to Wilnelia Merced, the only Miss World so far from Puerto Rico, who happens to be one of Morley's good friends and business associates. I don't know about you, but the more outstanding girls this year (Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Venezuela, Malaysia, Grenada) were shut out in favor of less beautiful girls who made the top 5.

Yes, dear readers, the only way your girl can advance in Miss World is through connections, either with Julia Morley herself, or with past titleholders who have become Julia's good friends. It sounds corrupt, but that's reality. It's all about getting to know the right people and sucking up to them if necessary

Hi, I heard that Miss Egypt contestants have to sign a contract with Face to Face/Yousef Spahi that gives him rights to the contestants income (how much they make after Miss Egypt) and other rights. In fact I think this was brought up before on a TV show. I want to know what exactly does a contestant have to sign when she enters Miss Egypt, whether or not she wins. And if she wins, what is the contractual obligation.

Out of curiousity, does Miss Egypt do anything else asides become or continue to be a model? Does she engage in activities that bring awareness to socio-economic issues? Anything with regards to significant epidemics in the region? Does she work with any NGOs to promote work being done for a good cause in the country? Does she provide any sort of leadership whatsoever to hold a title as "miss egypt"? Is she some kind of commodity people just take for granted because of a historic line of winners who seem to have all expressed a disinterest in exploring such a role yet have a keen desire to turn it into an opportunity for fame/modeling?
Correct me if I'm wrong, I just don't get what the point of this competition is, sometimes. I don't oppose it, but I don't quite understand it. I'm neither saying Miss Egypt should have a political campaign, but I believe she should represent the beauty and the interest of her people, not just a pretty girl with a pretty face. We all know there are many girls out there who are fit to be Miss Universe right here in our country, girls with big dreams and bright smiles... girls with the compassion of a mother and the curiosity of a child...girls who are not afraid to stand up for what they believe in. Girls who can step outside of their skin for a minute, and see what the world looks like from afar. Girls who are aware of what major changes are going on in their country, in their world, in their universe. Girls that will tell you that the sky is the limit when it comes to their dreams.
These girls are somewhere in this country, akeed. Yet we only see girls with limited dreams who want fifteen minutes of fame and spotlight and don't quite have the foresight to plan out an entire year as "miss Egypt" doing things that "the miss" of Egypt, should do to merit the title. Maybe the contestants in the past have expressed opinions that allude us to think they have good ideas, but they never really DO anything. Talk is one thing, DOing is another. Right? Taking pictures with cancer children in your tiara takes a few minutes out of one in 365 days. But sticking to a project and actively promoting it, whatever it be and we all know there's a lot of good work being done in the country, won't hurt you. People like compassion. People like people who can understand what they go through, feel their pain, and not just say "that's sad" or "too bad..."
There's no doubt in my mind we have girls who are qualified to DO a lot for their country during the reign of Miss Egypt than just model for ice cream ads or make up artists or whatever. My point is, IT'S ABOUT TIME MISS EGYPT DOES SOMETHING FOR HER COUNTRY, WHICH SHE SHOULD BE SO HONORED AS TO HAVE MERITED HER WITH SUCH A TITLE.
Regardless of the social class of the contestants, or the schools they went to, it's about time the girls take the chance to prove themselves an asset to this country. This year has been a fruitful year for Egypt from an economic angle, and we are progressing as an emerging market the way we ought to be. Our currency is getting stronger,we have good levels of investment in the country, lots of projects, and every industry has lots of opportunities for young people to engage in entrepreneurial spirit and start businesses. Growth: we are ready for growth. Yes we have lots of problems like high regional unemployment, but when we DO, we make stuff happen, just notice all the new cities outside cairo and you'll see we're literally growing.
We're blossoming like a rose, and that's something to celebrate and to care a lot about because without care, our rose wilts. I know there are lots of people out there who love Egypt and that's why they haven't left the country, and that's why if they have left, they can't stop thinking about it. Please Miss Egypt Organizers, PLEASE, I urge you to find someone who can encompass that fiery passion about Egypt, that we all share.
Forget about winning Miss Universe, win the hearts of the 70+ million people who all share in common one love: Egypt.

What a pity. What is the Miss Egypt Org doing? Why can't our winners or past winners be at Miss World again? This is a pageant where the beauty of the Egyptian girls and their grace will be appreciated, not to mention that this is the one pageant that most of the world (okay, except the Americans) watch.

Hope we get it right next year. Send the winner to MW and RU to MU.

Miss Earth pictures:

The Digital Association of the Philippine had a field time taking pictures of some of this year’s 15 delegates of Miss Earth (some other delegates not in this group were assigned to others photographers). If you are pageant directors, family supporters, fans or just love to collect photos of beautiful women, here’s worth watching for. Here are my favorite shots:

The second prime was interesting, the designers showd a big improvement unlike the models!! Anyways here are the ranks.

The designers:

1- Romeo: His dress was wonderful! I loved the beautiful red color and the design, ofcaurse having Amina as the model added alot to the presentation.
SCORE: 8.3
2- Joe: This Lebanese keeps impressing me! I thought that he would place 1st but maybe because he didnt have Amina as his model he couldn't score high enough, he had the best design of the night!
SCORE: 8
3- Michael: Joe's brother and another talent, his gown was not the best, i liked the top part of it but the bottom was questionable. His gown reminded me alot with the beautiful dress that Miss Turkey wore during Miss World 2000 when she placed 3rd.

SCORE: 7.5
4- Yasmeen: What an improvement! looved the top part of the dress, really one of the best designs of the night!
SCORE: 7
5- Issam: Beautiful classical red dress.
SCORE: 6.6
5- Slim: Very short and beautiful!
SCORE: 6.6
7- Khaled: I did not like the dress.
SCORE: 5.5
7- Qutt: I liked the concept but it could have been pulled in a better way.
SCORE: 5.5
9- Amro: lets just say Im glad that he is out of the competition, the dress looked like a rug!
SCORE: 5.3
9- Seema: I did not like her dress as much as her first one but I still thought it deserved a higher mark.
SCORE: 5.3

The models:

This week not many impressed me!! Here are the official ranks and comments.

1- Amina: for the second week and probably for a long time, she is wonderful and perfect!
SCORE: 8.6
2- Ebtissam: A bit overhyped, I donno but she just isn't my type, still she is doing very well on the catwalk.
SCORE: 7.3
3- Hanaa: Beautiful as always, very consistent.
SCORE: 7
4- Meriam: She did fine on the prome, but she could have done better as I saw her during the practices, she could have nailed the night!
SCORE: 6.5
5- Abir: she is cute:)
SCORE: 6.3
5- Dunia: She was totally out of the mode today, she did awful and was the worst among all the models! I donno why but she lacked confidence and almost tripped but thanks god the judges still believe in her.
SCORE: 6.3
7- Amira: She is doing fine, she is very tall, but I donno if she is the right girl for modeling.
SCORE: 6
8- Kholoud: Im really upset that she left! she improved alot and could have gone far!!! I hope to see her competing for the Miss Egypt crown next year.
SCORE: 5.8
9- Nariman: Again a weak performance.
SCORE: 5
10- Elyan: will she has another week to prove herself, its far beyond a beautiful face and a nice personality.
SCORE: 4.3

Those who got eliminated: Amro from KSA and Kholoud from Yemen.

Last night was the first prime of the 2nd edition of Mission: Fashion 2007.
This year the production was much much better than last year, starting with the beautiful set and the organization as well. This year's host is Annabella Hilal "Miss Lebanon World 2006" who looked wonderful on TV but made so many mistakes while introducing the contestants and all night long! I hope next week she would do better.

The contestants for the Model:
twelve girls praded the catwalk last night, the level of beauty and professionalism is a bit lower than lst year. However, if everything goes ok, the winner will be wonderful!

After the night was over two girls were snet home based on the judges' scores and those were Fatima from Palestine, despite having a gorgeous face and a good figure, the other contestant to leave was Manal from Iraq. I got the feeling that Manal was only accepted based on her nationality, she has NOTHING to do with modeling or even pageantary, Im glad that she was the first to leave!

The remaining 10 contestants are:

Dunia Hamed "Egypt": I was told about Dunia even before she left to Lebanon and heared that she is good, this is her very first modeling experience, and I really think she can go far! strikingly beautiful Arab features and a great body, plus she is 178. She placed high in the judges scores despite her lack of confidence.
SCORES: 6,9,5,9,5,8.

Nariman Al-Wazzan "Lebanon": I donno whats wrong with this year's casting from Lebanon! the two Lebanese contestans really disappointed me, I wished to see another Christelle! Nariman is playing the "sexy" card, she did not stand out last night, I donno why, she could have done much better. She has potential and looks great in pics but on stage no, we have to wait and see, also she needs to lose some weight.
SCORES: 5,5,6,6,5,5.

Meriam George "Egypt": She obviously grew up big time! Meriam was consistent last night, her catwalk needs improvement to follow up with International modeling standards but she managed to survive the night with her beautiful face and extra skinny figure! I did not think the hair style flattered her beauty the best because the ears are not her best feature but she looked very good in that short dress designed by Elie Saab. I think if Meriam mastered the catwalk, she can reach the final round of this contest easily.
SCORES: 6,8,5,7,6,7.

Abir Benani "Tunis": When she was standing there in the bottom three with Fatima and Manal I really hoped that she would leave! but she did not! I do not expect much from her unfortunately, she looks short and needs to lose some pounds, we will have to wait and see this week.
SCORES: 6,5,6,6,5,5.

Elyan Eid "Lebanon": I totally pictured her as a Miss Lebanon contestant, but as a model, NO! her features are outstanding but the make-up and hair did not help in softing things up for her, again I am disappointed with the casting this year from Lebanon!
SCORES: 5,4,4,4,4,6.

Amina "Morocco": this girl is the winner!! Hands down, this girl nailed it last night, she is already a winner, no other girl stands a chance in front of her beautiful face, wonderful figure and catwalk! if someone else won this year, its gonna be due to the voting and nothing else!! Good luck!!
SCORES: 9,9,9,9,9,8.

Ebtissam "Morocco": Did not really impress me, but she has potentail of growth, I hope she impresses me during the week.
SCORES: 8,7,7,8,6,8.

Hanaa "Tunis": Another strong contender, very beautiful face is a mixture between actress Mona Zaki, reminds me of Kolthum from last year "2nd RU" she definately is one of my favorites this year!!
SCORES: 8,8,6,8,7,8.

Kholoud "Yemen": Again I was not impressed and I wished that she left instead of Fatima, she should work on herself and she could be another Myriam "1st RU 06".
SCORES: 6,6,5,4,4,7.

Amira "Tunis": Amira is not as photogenic as she is telegenic, she has the height and the face, just a few pounds down and she would do great. I can totally picture her compete in a beauty pageant but she will do fine here too. My advice: Please slow down with using the sexy card!
SCORES: 6,7,7,6,6,6.

And so, here are week1 rankings:

1- Amina-----Morocco---8.8
2- Hanaa-----Tunis-----7.6
3- Ebtissam--Morocco---7.3
4- Dunia-----Egypt-----7.0
5- kholoud---Yemen-----6.7
6- Meriam----Egypt-----6.5
7- Amira-----Tunis-----6.3
8- Abir------Tunis-----5.5
9- Nariman---Lebanon---5.3
10- Elyan----Lebanon---4.5

Check this year's contestants' photos and mini-clips at:

Designers: Those who cought my attention were

- Qout Al-Qoloub "Kuwait": I saw this designers' work during my visit to Kuwait last summer, and she is really talanted, but the gown that she presented last night was not good at all.
SCORES: 4.4,6,5,6,7.

- Yasmine Yaya "Egypt": I did not like her style at all! her dress was too revealing, it wasn't even sexy, plus the cut looked amature.
SCORES: 7,8,6,8,7,9.

- Joe Chalita "Lebanon": Very talanted, loved his lines, probably a finalist this year.
SCORES: 9,9,5,7,7,9.

- Ahmed Bilal "Libya": Very talanted, I just donno why didd he get eliminated on the first night!!!
SCORES: 8,4,3,7,5,3.

Seema Ahmed "Bahrain": She totally got my vote with that wonderful little black dress!
SCORES: 8,8,6,9,6,8.

What the Future Holds for Miss International?

Miss International was once a glorious beauty pageant with a huge following. It enjoyed prestige and timeless beauties once graced it. Now, faced with various threats, the pageant is on the brink decay. Is it really or is it something that some quarters would like us to believe?

Where it all began Miss International traces its origins in Long Beach, California which incidentally is also the home of Miss Universe. The first ever winner of the pageant is Stella Marquez Zawadsky of Colombia who is now the pageant director of Bb. Pilipinas. The pageant debuted just as the swinging 60’s is on its initial swing. The pageant thrived in Long Beach for seven years and later moved to Japan as a part of an exposition. It once again returned to United States but since 1972, it has permanently called Japan as its home.

The peak of success

There is no doubt that Miss International is a prestigious pageant with a clear platform. During its heyday, the pageant is a favorite among the Japanese and used to draw very large crowd. Top class women once graced the pageant and still attract top caliber women. For example, Dayanara Torres before she went on to capture the Miss Universe crown was once a finalist at the pageant. The pageant was hosted by top Japanese presenters and was graced by great personas in Japanese society. TV ratings were encouraging and sponsorships were providing adequate revenue. Miss International also proved to be a distinct pageant with a different trend. Although it recognized Venezuela as a superpower, Miss International is yet to crown an Indian woman despite the winning streaks of the latter at Miss World. The Philippines is also a superpower in the pageant winning 4 crowns even though that this Asian country is waning at Miss Universe. Poland, which is also barely heard at the other Big Three is a force to reckon with at Miss International with 3 crowns to boast.

The decline

Last year, only 53 women representing their respective countries participated in the pageant. This is the lowest turn-out for a major pageant. In comparison, Miss Universe attracted 86 delegates, Miss World welcomed 104 delegates and Miss Earth got 82 participants.

I vs U

The trend is that the Japanese attention shifted from Miss Japan International to Miss Japan-Universe pageant. More so that now Japan holds the Miss Universe title thanks to Riyo Mori. The decline of Miss International is linked to the decline of its national counterpart which is Miss Japan International. The latter is no longer the premier beauty pageant spectacle in Japan thanks to the intensive overhauling of Miss Universe-Japan that produces strings of successes. There are also contrasting priorities. Miss Japan International pageant attracts more demure Japanese women. Miss Japan-Universe on the other hand is looking for a bon vivant woman. In short, one is traditional and the other is modern and it seems that Miss Japan-Universe proved that it is more attune with the times. Less interest on Miss Japan International meant less interest on Miss International. It is no coincidence that the pageant is experimenting on China. Last year, both Tokyo and Beijing played as hosts. China is a more welcoming place and could attract new fans. So successful the experiment that this year, come October 15, Beijing will solely host the event.

PR Trouble

Last year’s Miss International was also barely covered by the media. Even Missosology.Org failed to extensively cover the event in contrast with what happened in the 2005 edition. It seems that in Beijing, organizers failed to provide a safe and efficient way to handle journalists covering the event. Even before that, the pageant is not friendly to foreign media. The language used in the pageant for example is Japanese signifying the fact that it is concentrating more on the domestic market – a market where it is now losing ground. The pageant therefore could not be beamed live across the world.

The MTQI issue

Of course, the supposed quiet decline of Miss International is something that other upstart and wannabe beauty pageants would like to cheer about. Globalbeauties.com for example is using its popularity in busily promoting the Miss Tourism Queen International (MTQI) despite the fact that it only covered the pageant last year. The website is also suggesting that MTQI will be included as one of the top pageants. It was learned however by Missosology that Globalbeauties.com founder Henrique Fontes sat as one of the judges at MTQI while he is also the national director of the pageant in Brazil. The issue is an emphatic fact that upstart and never-heard pageants are willing to flex their muscles just to gain to prestige. Such move can indeed endanger Miss International. Miss International of course is way beyond MTQI when it comes to prestige. Miss International for example can bank to its rich history. The public perception is also a good measure. For example, the 2005 victory of Precious Lara Quigaman at Miss International 2005 received wide public and media attention in the Philippines while Justin Gabionza’s MTQI victory went unnoticed.

This year and beyond

Is Miss International struggling to stay alive? Maybe. The number of participating countries is a good measure. However, the 2007 edition is quite promising. Priscila Perales of Mexico, a top ten finishers at Miss Universe 2006 will be gracing the pageant. There are several countries that will eventually send their first ever Miss International contestant. Even Indonesia is coming back after decades of absence. As mentioned, Beijing will be the sole host of the pageant, which means that the organizers realized that it needs to expose itself more to an audience outside Japan. Miss International no doubt is still a beauty pageant with prestige but like any organization, it is can experience its low point too. If anything, the pageant is not as bad as what others would like us to think.

I had a dream that Madonna Khaled would play the Cleopatra-like character Elaan in the upcoming Star Trek film (I don't know if that character is in the film aslan lol). Mashallah she has such a photogenic and perfect face, with and without makeup (which can't be said about some of our queens). It is very cinematic, I hope she becomes an actress or an ambassador, that face can do wonders! I see Egypt in her eyes.

Go Madonna!

Whoever said, dolls are only for girls havent met FAG. No, not a fagF And G, also known F&G. They are a couple of men from the worlds of fashion, engineering, photography and social work joined together by a creative challenge that would take them to the limits of their innovative minds and competitive extremities. Their project requires patience, a sense of style, cultural detailing, a keen eye for beauty, creativity and above all dollswelcome world to Miss Unibarse. The challenge is to do an extreme makeover, turning something beautiful into something extra ordinary. The subjects: Barbie and her friends, Genesis, Tyra, Asia, Gizelle, Kendy and Heidi. The prize, a years worth of bragging rights as the best extreme makeover guru and beauty queen maker. The players, a designer who works as a case manager for individuals living with HIV/AIDS and an engineer that works for a prominent beauty line company, as the creative director and in house graphic artist. They started with two Big Lots bargain dolls and with its success they embarked on a few more. One thing led to another and eventually the two had three balikbayan size boxes full of dolls. Not wanting to donate nor depart from their dolls, the two came up with the concept of Miss Unibarse in 2005. Miss Unibarse is a fusion of Americas love for pageants, extreme beauty makeovers and phone/internet voting. We decided to work on a project that would showcase our love for pageants, fashion and modeling at the same time incorporate and share it with our friends (thats where the voting comes in). With months of preparation and hard work, Miss Unibarse was launched in winter of 2005 and elected their very first Miss Unibarse in the Spring where Kuprek Nerti from Namibia beat out 40 other dolls from around the world. With the success of Miss Unibarse 2005, the two embarks on a bigger and better challenge and that is to bring forth Miss Unibarse to the forefront of online pageants aficionados as away to unify and transcend international boundaries. Citizens of the world, we hope you enjoy Miss Unibarse 2007.
