Miss Earth 2006 Hil Hernandez back in Manila

(I-Newswire) - Manila, September 14, 2007. Three is a charm, indeed, for the reigning MISS EARTH, Hil Yesenia Hernandez Escobar as she returns to Manila from Chile for the third time to signal the onset of the MISS EARTH 2007 and continue her mission to be the guardian of Mother Earth.

Hil arrived last Friday 7th of September in Manila to begin her meeting with Miss Earth-Water, Catherine Untalan, now Project Director of the Miss Earth Foundation, regarding her various activities on environmental sustainability. The “Philippines is a second home for me because I am very much comfortable with the people I am with. There may be a lot of tasks to be done, but all the hard work is worth it, knowing I was able to contribute for the better,” the 23 year old Chilean beauty Hil commented.

After a brief stint in Singapore last April where she co-hosted the United Nations Environmental Programme ( UNEP ) gala event, Champion of the Earth, Hil passed by Manila to be part of Earth Day Activities within Metro Manila. Together with the United States Agency for International Development ( USAID ) Philippines, she and Catherine Untalan took part in the Clean Air Campaign, as well as, the promotion of the use of alternative fuel and recycling fairs in conjunction with other environmental groups.

This time, in a welcome reception hosted by Philippine Tourism Authority headed by General Manager & CEO, Robert Dean Barbers, Hil announces her activities beginning with the celebration of International Coastal Clean-up Day event in Manila with the reigning Miss Philippines-Earth 2007, Jeanne Harn as well as Catherine Untalan. Also, in line, are the School Tour projects of the Miss Earth Foundation so-called “I Love My Planet Earth” until November. The school tour is an educational project that aims to teach grade school students to take care of their environment. In between, she has scheduled trips in Singapore, Vietnam, and China to be part of more environmental activities and to grace the national pageants.

Hil Heals the Earth and it has become a passion for her. “My coronation last year will always be a treasured memory but my goal is to build something lasting.” She sees Miss Earth as a window of opportunity that will allow her to do something that could help create a better world, a better earth.

Carousel Productions Inc. is proud to have another Miss Earth winner who has the heart and sincerity to take part in a conscious effort to protect our planet. Their reign maybe for only a year but we are hopeful that what they have established will remain in the hearts and minds of people.

Miss Earth 2007 will culminate with the Coronation Night on the 11th of November at the University of the Philippines Theater and will be aired over ABS CBN Channel 2, with more than 80 delegates from across the globe participating and with Star World and TFC to cover the Pageant in all its footprints on a delayed telecast. The Traders Hotel Manila will be the Official Residence of the Miss Earth 2007 come October.

Here is a look at all the Miss Egypts who have represented the land of Pharaohs at the Miss Universe Pageant since 1987 to present, with the execptions of 1991 and 1993 when no winner was sent to Miss Universe. All photos were taken from the introduction segments of respective Miss Universe video clips except for one. Ranya's photos is from the 2000 National Costume competition video clip because I couldn not find her intro.

I think Fawzeya Mohamed Miss Egypt 2006 should be sent to another pageant. I think Face2Face should send her to Miss Earth 2007. She is the only Miss Egypt that was sent only to one pageant after winning the crown. In addition she is a top model and the girl didnt get her chance in miss universe at all because we all know how MU is like. Send her to Miss Earth and she will go far maybe further than meriam george did last year!! I still think Yara should go to Miss World. Ehsan to Miss Intercont or Miss International and sherihan or radwa or miss intercont or international. I want to hear your opinions!!

BAD IMPRESSION : Guatemala's representative to MTQI 2007, Yasmina Pacay, criticized the pageant for being badly organized and for failing to provide translators for Spanish-speaking candidates. She exclaimed [my translation in English]: "It was supposed to be a tourism event and we came for intercultural exchanges.

It's a pity that they took us to tourist spots and everything was in English. What am I going to learn?" The 21-year-old beauty lambasted the lack of organization and the excessive amount of activities; she said that the contestants averaged three or four hours of sleep.

She was also disappointed by the organizers' last-minute decision to elect ten semi-finalists instead of twenty. Several of the contestants suffered heatstrokes, stress and diet-related illnesses. (Terra, Spain, 8/1/2007)

Here are some interesting facts about the Miss Universe pageant.

1. BOTH ZULEYKA RIVERA and ALICIA MACHADO had horrible experiences with MUO. BOTH gained weight, BOTH were Latinas, BOTH curled their hair for their final appearance, BOTH wore a flowing yellow gown for their interview with the hosts (Alicia wore a blue and yellow dress), BOTH wore black for their farewell walk (Alicia wore a semi-translucent black dress with beige undertones), BOTH were unhappy at the end and BOTH DUMPED THE CROWN ON THE WINNER'S HEAD.

2. 5 countries who made the cut in 1993 (when the pageant was last held in Mexico) made it this year: Venezuela, USA, India, Czech Republic and Brazil.

3. Venezuela placed as 2nd Runner-up back in 1993 and did the same in 2007.

4. USA was booed both in 1993 and 2007.

5. 2007 is the first time since 2002 that Venezuela, India and USA have all been in the semis.

6. Miss USA is the first semi-finalist to totally wipe out during a Miss Universe live telecast but she recovered great.

7. Denis Davila (National Director of Miss Canada), Ines Legron (National Director of Miss Japan) and Magali Febles (National Director of Misses Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic) are all Paula Shugart's favorites. MU 2003 (Magali Febles; Dominican Republic), MU 2005 (Davila's Miss Canada), MU 2006 (Febles' Miss Puerto Rico), MU 2007 (Legron's Japan). Coincidence? I think NOT!

8. Puerto Rico was 1st Runner-up in 2005 and won the event in 2006. Japan was 1st Runner-Up in 2006 and won the event in 2007.

9. Since 1995, all the MU winners (with the exclusion of 3) come from countries that have had at least one past Miss Universe winner. VENEZUELA (1996, 1986, 1981, 1979), USA (1997, 1995, 1980, 1967, 1960, 1956, 1954), TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO (1998 and 1977), INDIA (2000 and 1994), AUSTRALIA (2004 and 1972), CANADA (2005 and 1882), PUERTO RICO (2006,2001,1993,1985,1970), JAPAN (2007 and 1959). The only new countries to win since 1995 (12 years ago) have been BOTSWANA (1999), RUSSIA (2002) and DOMINCAN REPUBLIC (2003).

10. Countries that participated this year yet haven’t had a single semi-finalist at Miss Universe include: Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Bulgaria, Croatia, Egypt, Georgia, Guyana, Kazakhstan, Mauritius, St. Lucia and Zambia.

11. It has been mentioned that 2007 was the final year that the delegates will bring National Costumes.

12. 2007 marked ANGOLA and NICARAGUA's highest placements at Miss Universe and first time placements for TANZANIA and SLOVENIA.

13. BRAZIL won the semi-finals during the live telecast going into the Final Question.

14. UKARINE was the delegate with the lowest score in the swimsuit round.

15. All the EUROPEAN semi-finalists were cut after the swimsuit round.

16. All the AFRICAN semi-finalists were cut after the evening gown round.

17. This is the 7th time PHILIPPINES has won Miss Photogenic.

18. This is the first time that CHINA has won Miss Congeniality.

19. Miss Universe 1953 (CHRISTIANE MARTEL) is the oldest former Miss Universe to judge at Miss Universe.

Subject: MISS UNIVERSE RESULTS - THE WORST MU PAGEANT IN HISTORY!

Author:

Date Posted: 07:30:31 05/29/07 Tue
(CPE0060673d3213-CM014090001039.cpe.net.cable.rogers.com/72.141.2.252)

This was the WORST Miss Universe pageant EVER!

First let me stress the issue of TIME. This year's pageant took ONE WHOLE MONTH and at times it got so boring! Because MUO moved the pageant ahead by two months from last year's date, SEVERAL COUNTRIES DID NOT HAVE AMPLE TIME TO TRAIN!

Now on to the TELECAST.

The OPENING was okay. Miss Egypt had a strong intro, France and Mauritius were sultry, Italy was SCARY but that's about it.

The HOSTS were crap. They kept talking about themselves and had no real enthusiasm to build suspense.

The CHOREOGRAPHY was very poor. None of the delegates knew if they were coming or going and their timing was off. This was especially seen with the Top 15, Top 10 and Top 5 finalists.

The STAGE was IMPRACTICAL. Yes it looked nice but during the swimsuit round there was a HUGE SUN DISK that blocked many delegates who were in the box cubicles. Very tacky and what a disgrace to those ladies who worked so hard for one whole month. You could BARELY SEE many delegates who were in those boxes!

EHSAN had some nice shots because she was standing right behind the hosts at the beginning and her hair and make-up were SPECTACULAR!

*Top 15 in SWIMSUITS (Scores posted)

1. JAPAN 9.599
2. BRAZIL 9.560
3. KOREA 9.458
4. TANZANIA 9.223
5. ANGOLA 9.150
6. U.S.A. 8.995
7. VENEZUELA 8.971
8. INDIA 8.548
9. MEXICO 8.527
10. NICARAGUA 8.171
11. SLOVENIA 8.163
12. CZECH REPUBLIC 8.113
13. DENMARK 7.969
14. THAILAND 7.940
15. UKRAINE 7.900

COMMENTS: The pop musical group was horrible. The worst I have ever seen in my life.

JAPAN was the true standout here.

ANGOLA is the sexiest black woman ever! She might be a bit curvy but her face is TO DIE FOR!

Boos for USA begin but are minimal.

INDIA has a very flat butt, which was unfortunately evident due to camera angles.

Notice ALL THE EUROPEANS GET ELIMINATED HERE.

*Top 10 in EVENING GOWN (Scores posted)

1. BRAZIL 9.599 (same silver gown as prelims. SEXY!)
2. VENEZUELA 9.510 (same white gown as prelims. STIFF DRESS.)
3. KOREA 9.183 (new gown. BEST GOWN of the evening.)
4. JAPAN 8.943 (same gucci gown as prelims)
5. U.S.A. 8.754 (new gown. this was the same cut as her miss usa winning gown but it was black instead of red. NICE.)
6. TANZANIA 8.488 (new gown. white and classy)
7. ANGOLA 8.363 (same red gown as prelims. SEXY with KILLER WALK!)
8. MEXICO 7.850 (new gown. red, short and simple. TACKY.)
9. INDIA 7.825 (same gown as prelims. SHE CAN'T WALK IN IT.)
10. NICARAGUA 7.674 (new gown. white flowers. TOO COMPLEX AND INTRICATE.)

COMMENTS: Music was weird. The music was from SEAN PAUL, the Jamaican Hip Hop/Rap/Reggae artist. Wasn't fitting with elegance or even high fashion runway atmosphere.

EHSAN wore THE SAME DRESS SHE WORE IN PRELIMS. She looked radiant. I really wanted to see her in that navy dress, though! Now, I am not sure if that dress got ripped or she couldn't walk in it but if it was a problem like that then I understand. If it was a just a personal choice then I will be honest and say I feel it was a mistake because the navy dress was the best.

MISS PREU LOOKED PISSED!

MISS USA slipped backwards and totally fell down on the stage on her bottom! That has never happened before! The delegates and the crowd gave her some applause BUT the hosts mentioned that elegance, class, poice and confidence were being judged. Although she stood back up and still did well I THINK IF ANYONE FALLS DURING THE EVENGING GOWN OR SWIMSUIT ROUNDS THEY SHOULD BE PENALIZED. She came 5th in this round, which I thought was unfair because TANZANIA and especially ANGOLA were very classy and poised too and they stayed on both their feet the entire time!

*MISS PHOTOGENIC: PHILIPPINES (AGAIN!!!!)
*MISS CONGENIALITY: CHINA

*"Get to know the delegate Interviews" WAS DISCARDED.

*TOP 5 Final Questions

VENEZUELA was asked if she would want a wild man or a safe man and she gave a generic response that didn't answer the question but she delivered it in Spanish and the crowd LOVED the end of it.

KOREA was asked what super power would she have if she could. She said she wanted money to help the unfortunate but at the end she said "A big wallet is something I could use," and that came off as stuck up.

BRAZIL was asked if she would rather live life using her head/brain or emotions (heart). She gave the BEST answer of the Top 5 but it wasn't a great one. It was your generic "I believe in a balance."

USA was asked what past experience she learned from the most. Through the LOUDEST BOOS I HAVE EVER HEARD IN MY ENTIRE LIFE she said it was when she was in South Africa helping at Oprah's school for children because education was important to her.

JAPAN was asked what the most important lesson she learned as a child that she still keeps with her today was and she mentioned dancing and how it taught her to be patient, hardworking and happy.

COMMENTS: USA got BOOED beyond belief when she advanced and MEXICO didn’t. Then she got BOOED EVEN MORE during her final answer!

The JUDGES were sickened by the way the audience treated MISS USA. Former Miss Universe 1993 DYANNARA TORRES (who won 14 years ago in Mexico City) was shaking her head in disgust!

NONE OF THE ANSWERS WERE AMAZING.

The TRANSLATORS were horrible! THEY TRANSALATED EVERYTHING. Even when a judge said “Congratulations!” There was SO MUCH INTERRUPTION between the bad crowd and the translators interrupting the judges and finalists.

When the hosts thanked DONALD TRUMP, the audience BOOED HIM TOO! LOL! I COULDN'T BELIEVE IT!

*FINAL RESULTS

4TH RUNNER-UP: U.S.A.
3RD RUNNER-UP: KOREA
2ND RUNNER-UP: VENEZUELA
1ST RUNNER-UP: BRAZIL
MISS UNIVERSE: JAPAN

COMMENTS: This was the worst coronation ever. The crowd was rowdy, not excited. Japan was not the best from her country. KURARA CHIBANA from 2006 WAS THE BEST.

The ONLY good thing I have to say is ZULEYKA LOOKED AMAZING! She really is sexy, vibrant, lovely and a true beauty queen. With the exception of VENEZUELA and KOREA, NONE of the Top 5 LOOKED LIKE A TRUE QUEEN.

Although ZULEYKA's reign is over SHE WAS THE TRUE QUEEN OF THE NIGHT!

In closing, MUO wanted Mexico to host and THEY GOT WHAT THEY DESERVED! THE WEAKEST MISS UNIVERSE TELECAST I HAVE EVER SEEN OVER 20+ YEARS OF WATCHING!

*****

CONGRATULATIONS TO EHSAN and the FACE2FACE! I'm actually glad MISS EGYPT didn't make the semis because that crowd was the WORST I have ever seen and even though they only booed MISS USA it sucked the life and energy out of the other ladies and the overall competition.

Global Beauties & many other websites have declared that Ehsan Hatem will represent Egypt in world's most prestigious and biggest beauty pageant "MISS WORLD 2007".

However, from what I do remember .... fan-man said in one of his posts that Ehsan Hatem is not going to Miss World instead there will be another representative assigned.

There's definitely a conflict of statements ...

WHAT'S THE TRUTH? IS EHSAN HATEM going to MISS WORLD? or IS EGYPT EVEN PARTICIPATING IN MISS WORLD 2007?

They are a little disappointing, none of them are even at the same level as Ibrahim or Ahmad the top 2 from last year.

Arrogant and dumb slam Miss Universe Riyo Mori
Sunday, 15 July 2007

Riyo Mori, the 2007 Miss Universe, is copping a beating from the domestic media, according to Shukan Shincho.

"There were loads of reporters who saw her who said the first thing that came to mind was 'How the hell did she become Miss Universe?'" an entertainment beat reporter tells Shukan Shincho. "I thought that making up her eyes to emphasize her 'Oriental Exoticism' isn't a look that really appeals to Japanese.

"What really shocked me was the arrogant way she went about things. She used a microphone to point at the reporters asking her questions, and the way she stood with her hands on her hips as she talked created a bad impression. That might be the way they do things in America, but a female Japanese performer would never act that way.

She looked down on Japan, too, by saying that she had no idea who her favorite Japanese performer was. And when one reporter asked her what it felt like to have been chosen as the world's most beautiful women, she spat, 'That's a mistake. Miss Universe is not a beauty contest.' That got most of the reporters tittering."

Mori is apparently taking steps to try and gain some popular support. "She's contacting all the biggest talent agencies to find out if they're interested in putting her on their books. Miss Universe has to spend a year traveling around the world and helping out with AIDS charities, so any concrete moves won't be able to come out until the year after next," a TV industry insider says.

Mori can take heart from the success of Kurara Chibana, the runner-up in last year's Miss Universe contest who now works as a reporter for a TV current affairs program called "News Zero."

But the entertainment beat reporter is not too bullish about the 20-year-old beauty queen's chances in Japan's cutthroat entertainment world. Read more from the source / Arrogant and dumb: Local celeb hacks slam Miss Universe Riyo Mori / mainichi-msn.co.jp

Zuleyka no aguanta presión!

Comienza Miss Continente Americano 2007!

(Belize News)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The 2007 edition of Miss Tourism Queen International in China is one of the highly participated beauty event in the history. With more than 110 candidates, such a surprise to know that many countries are interested in joining this contest. And I was more surprised to know that the organizers of MTQI is giving FREE airline tickets to all of the candidates, with no franchise fee required. Well that probably is a marketing strategy MTQI have to acquire more delegates. As member of the press, I was in the welcome ceremony and was surprised to see the candidates in person. In reality...many of them aren't beautiful, most are very lousy. I don't know what national pageants these girls came from. They are very pretty in the photos posted in globalbeauties.com, but in reality, only a few are beauty queens to see.

I was wondering why Global Beauties gave MTQI a slot in the "Big Pageants League". As far as we all know, MTQI is just an ordinary beauty pageant. Or maybe it is the quantity of candidates that made them qualify. But it is still very questionable, because I was so shocked to see Hawaii, Borneo and other unknown territories represented.

On another point, it doesn't even have a good cause. Tours at various places in China, dinners, rehearsals and press conferences are the only activities they have. They don't even have time to do something worthwhile. Why could that be? And I finally got the answer. MTQI is nothing but a business. All of the candidates activities during the pageant season are intended to earn money. For the sponsors to dine and talk with girls in exchange of supporting the pageant.

I have been covering beauty contests for 11 years in a print company circulating the United States and Canada, and I was very much disappointed that so many girls are being used to create money.

I might as well conclude that i'd still be holding to the fact the only Miss Universe, Miss World and Miss Earth can only be recognized in "big pageant league". With quality delegates and great cause, definitely no questions asked.

Madonna will not represent Egypt in Miss Tourism Queen International.
Madonna turned down the offer only two days ago leaving Face To Face with no option to send anyone else.

Madonna unfortunately will not be able to travel due to a personal family matter. This is a bit depressing especially that she declined few days ago and did not have any time for replacement. Yet we, Face to Face, are so comprehensive regarding this issue.

Yes, we do have signed contracts with all contestants, but we always deal with our contestants with trust, faith & understanding. Having a contract does not mean suing them, cases should be raised whenever inquired and in Madonna's case, it is not applicable.

Subject: MISS LEBANON COMMITTEE OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT

(NoHost/69.158.207.63)

In November, over 100 beautiful young women will be arriving in the tropical city of Sanya, China, to compete for the oppurtunity of a lifetime, the crown and title of MISS WORLD 2007. For the past two years, Lebanon has sent 1st Runner's Up to represent Lebanon (Lamitta Frangeih in 2005 and Annabella Hilal in 2006).

But this year, the official Miss Lebanon 2007 herself will represent our fine nation in Miss World. So expect to see Nadine Njeim competing in Miss World this year. We are hoping she can go farther than even Marie Jose Hnein, Joelle Behlok, and Annabella Hilal in this years pageant. Nadine will start preparing her wardrobe very soon for the 2007 edition of Miss World.

On a different note, I will announce the official representative of Lebanon in Miss International 2007 after the committee has made a decision and granted the permission to make it public. This is your newest update from the Miss Lebanon Committee. Thank you.

Just liked the coincidence.

Beirut, LEBANON: (L-R) Tunisian singer Latifa, Lebanese makeup artist Hala Ajam, fashion designer Abed Mahfuz and Miss Lebanon 1999 Norma Naaoum cut a cake in the shape of a lipstick in Beirut, late 16 January 2007. The event was held to promote Ajam's newly published makeup book "Face to Face."

I wanted to wish Madonna an AMAZING time at MTQI! She definitely has the beauty to do very well in what will probably turn out to be the pageant with the most conestants this year! Madonna radiates elegance and classic, soft beauty a lot like Meriam George. I hope Madonna will have as much luck and even more! GOOD LUCK AND KNOCK THEIR SOCKS OFF!

Does anyone know what Madonna's training has been like and when her send off will be? Any tidbits on what her styling and wardrobe for the competition will be like? Pictures of her send off would be soo cool.

HOPE YOU HAVE THE BEST TIME EVER MADONNA!

Hello!

I'm from Poland and I want to share my feeling after watching videos from Pantene Miss Egypt 2007 pageant with you.

Ehsan Hatem - she has got a pretty face and she was shining on the final. She was marking and she has deserved her crown, but Donald Trump searchs different girls. She would be nice on Miss World, but I think that Yara is the best for Julia Morley's pageant.

Radwa Ahmed - I don't know how it's possible that she placed before Yara, Sherihan and Madonna. I like only last photo which was inserted by Fan-man, but at this moment in my opinion she would be 4th runner up.

Yara Naoum - I love her! She will be great on Miss World! She can do it and I believe that she will be in TOP 6 with a sash of Miss World Africa. We will see on December 1st... Go Yara! Go Egypt!!!

Sherihan Fouad - another Egiptian beauty. She is the best choise for Miss Earth 2007! In 2006 Meriam, now Sherihan. Great, because Miss Earth is very nice contest and it's getting better and better. Good luck for you, Sherihan!

Madonna Khaled - and the last one... Madonna. I like her so much. She looks pretty and very likeable. I hope that first year of participating of Egypt in MTQI will be lucky for you and Madonna.

Regards! :)

I have finished watching miss earth on melody hits.
It is really a deciption. I didn´t like the pageant at all, the organization of the contest is bad and really needs too much to reach the level of Miss Universe and Miss World.
the idea of calling the runner ups as miss air, fire is really silly. the first runner up is called miss air so the pronunciation of miss air and miss earth is close so the candidates get confused who is the winner !
Miriam george was nice but her make up was really bad! and why she mentioned miss universe and miss intercontinental In MISS EARTh??!!!!! that was very silly of her, even i admire miriam and i think she is one of the most beautiful miss egypt, her talking skills are bad and the interpreter helped her a lot .
Wishing to see egypt in china this year in miss world with yara.
Good luck egypt
