seriously. no, not really. but how rediculous is our whole election process? I have never understood the electoral college concept. why not just go by popular vote?
and i read the gun control bit. i think the gun locks are bad for home defense. "hold on honey, i'll shoot the burgler after i get this damn child-proof lock off"

Well, this same arguement can be applied to keeping guns in difficult to access places, such as safes. How about "Honey, what's the combination again, so I can shoot the intruder?" But I can see a gun lock combined with the secure place theory really slowing things down and making home security a joke.

Alright, I want to participate in this conversation, just let it be known that I do not approve of the "title."
I do not think there is anything that can be done to stop someone who wants to use a gun form using one. We can use trigger locks, which I think would be quicker than a "safe," but a child, or someone will figure a way to dismantle that. I don't know, maybe we should find a way to lessen crime?

Ok. Gun locks. What is that going to solve? If someone WANTS to use a gun, for whatever reason, they will. Guns are simply a tool for the diseased minds that utilize them. People can use ANYTHING they want as a tool for vengence, greed or whatever: Guns, knives, fists, words, etc. THEY ARE ALL AN EXTENSION OF THE WEAPON INSIDE THEIR OWN HEAD.
WHY are people using them for the wrong purposes, is what needs to be studied. Why do these kids who are shooting their classmates feel they have no other way to get attention? Or are they doing it because they are really pissed off with their circumstances and don't know anything other way to change things? Hmmmmmm...

And about the election process, well, one can only say that it is an old system that while misunderstood by many Americans, has reasons for existing. I mean it is the great equilizer, keeps everything on a level field. I mean, we often forget that this is a republic and not a democracy. We elect leaders to make descisions, and not very well I might add, and then get mad when they do stuff that we do not understand. I think it is because we do not totally understand the system, or at least the issues with which the system must deal. I just find it difficult to question and deem flawed a system that kept Gore out of office. I mean we are slowly finding out how bad Clinton was for this country, and yet people still yearn for Gore. Oh, just as a disclaimer, I am not suggesting that KILL is pushing for Gore, just stating a fact I have seen in my own life.

Hey, not to digress here but thanks for remembering that "ben" is a part of my name, everyone else around this forum seems to think that it's okay to shorten my name...
But back to the topic. We seem to be on the same page here. Why do kids want to shoot their classmates? WHAT are they missing as far as a spiritual education goes? Who made them think that there is no other way to handle their problems? Let's concentrate on LISTENING to kids more often, respecting them and their opinions. Showing them what they can do to help others and themselves. I mean, Hey, I know when I feel helpless and frustrated that is when I get irrational and mean. So, it's a logical conclusion that this could be a big source of the problem.
Any ideas for implementing some kind of plan to acknowledge children and their accomplishments?

I agree that we have to somewhat...empower kids. they need to feel useful and have a valid existance. It is when they loose thios that they react in "other" ways. But I also think that is does not have to be as advanced as recognizing their accomplishments, not that this should be avoided. But I mean, if a kid just feels that they have someone that seems to give a shit about them, drastic changes in that kids mentality can be made. I have read up on most of the big stories involving school shootings. And to me it seemed that all the kids had at least one thing in common other than being picked on. They all at one point were searching for a figure to show affection and caring. They all wanted parents who gave a lick about them. All we have to do is pay attention and show caring. Now this will not solve all the problems, but it has to be a good start.

I must concur with Zisel Ben. Very well said, and I agree with the concept. We must work to take away the desire to use a gun, not attempt to take away the guns. This is something we will never do.
