Thanks for finding that article. I learned some good stuff.

The article says that the average size of the gay population runs at 4 percent with higher concentrations of up to 15% in the cities.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGBT_demographics_of_the_United_States

And 2/3 of gay marriages are of lesbian flavor.

And gay marriages dissolve much more frequently than het marriages.

In Norway, male same-sex marriages are 50 percent more likely to end in divorce than heterosexual marriages, and female same-sex marriages are an astonishing 167 percent more likely to be dissolved. It reasonably follows that relationships in which both partners are women are more likely to include someone who wishes to exit.

The reason for higher rates of gay divorce IMO is simply because Gay Marriage is still a new phenomenon, a new offering, a new way to solidify a long term relationship. Changing a relationship by employing the state's blessing incurs additional stressors. Some gays may have jumped on the marriage bandwagon just to make a statement (legally register their orientation) or just to try it and found the ride a bumpy one. We all love that first year honeymoon and then the real work begins.

And of course we have a 50% societal opposition on average to the very idea of a gay family living next door.

And then article falsely concludes for the happiness of its readership "so when gay couples do decide to get married, they are more likely than their straight equivalents to change their minds later."

That looks true based on recent history of gay marriage and divorce, but moving forward when/if gays ever gain respect in junior high school and beyond which may take another 50 years, their rates of marriage and divorce will likely normalize toward the same rates of het marriage and divorce.

I fail to see how gay marriage destroys het marriage. We have gay marriage here in Mass. Can you name 1 het marriage that has been destroyed by gay marriage? I haven't seen any foundations cracking either.
