rabw is correct. Police and firefighters have to work a minimum of 32 years for a full pension. They can retire at with a full pension at age 55 if they were 23 when they got hired. Most cops and firefighters are now joing the forces after graduating from college and/or doing a tour in the military, the average age is of a new hire is 28 to 30 they cannot retire at 60 or 62.

Firefighters are more prone to cancers due to exposures to toxics at fires, and cops have a stressful job dealing with everything from citzens theatening to get them fired becase they got a speeding ticket to havng to play referee in domestic disputes and everything else they have to deal with in the course of a day.
