I don't think I am going to tell you anything you don't already know.

The state (all governments) has a vested interest in maintaining order and providing us all with equal opportunity. The state enforces the rules and makes the laws. Religious beliefs do not run states. I think Iran is run by a religious mullah and Saudi Arabia by the Saud family.

The institution and tradition of marriage is controlled by the state. The state issues a licence to get married. The state determines if you are old enough and single enough and blood compatible. The state has the power to make the rules, not your mine or anyone's religious beliefs no matter how traditional, pious or grande.

Massachusetts says only 1 man and 1 woman or 2 men or 2 women; no polygamy. The state says interracial is ok. The state says human beings only. The state says who can get married.

The state supplanted the white man's vote by giving it to women, thereby diluting male power. The state freed the black man from slavery thereby taking free labor from white folk and giving them competition instead.

The state will deprive heterosexual married people their identity as expressed by their institution and tradition of marriage. Its just a matter of time.

The justices won't see it as you do. They will see it as being additive, no subtractive or dilutive. They will see it as giving more people more rights. You see it as corrupting your idealism of marriage. One man and one woman, one phallus and one vagina. The concept of 2 phallus' or 2 vaginas is foreign, unproductive and you have never "felt that way" and never will. And I can understand that. When one has a lifelong concept that is threatened or changed, one has a reluctance to change and often rejects it. And the norm of the majority has always been one way. It is in the bible and clearly makes sense for most of us. But there are others in the forest, lost, without a partner, an institution, a state that provides rights and funding. How can you deprive them of their human needs to enjoy the benefits of being grounded in society's most basic institution?
