Strong and stable heterosexual family units haven't existed for a very long time. 90% of the students in my classroom each year come from homes that suffer from divorce, have single parents, or are being raised by grandparents. When I hear a student talk about his or her parents that happen to be the original parents and not a step or boyfriend at this point is almost a shock. The institution is no longer much of an institution it's time to re-write the definition.
