If you are an employee of a company and earn say $25.00 an hour, that is not what your employer charges the consumer for your services. There is Workman's compensation, liability insurance, unemployment, matching Federal withholding and social Security deductions. There is also the cost of medical policies.
On top of all that, companies actually want to make money on labor. What do you think those construction workers standing in the road in Hudson calling themselves "flaggers" are costing Mass Highway?
So yes, those shovel workers are costing the state at least $60.00 an hour. That's how business works.
