Here is the dress we just got in the mail--it isnt purple though-although I almost wish I got the purple--its called key-lime - I sent Taylors pic to the pageant shoppe & asked them which color would look best on her & they thought the green -- so thats what we got. For the price of the gown I think it is very well made & has alot of beads/faux diamonds--I think it was $165---much less than many I saw---

Taylor's pageant dress is here! Its beautiful! The color isnt exactly like I thought it would be but I still really like it. I thought it might be more of a light lime color but its a "different" lime color. It has beads & faux (sp?) diamonds on it. For the price I thought it was very pretty! It has several layers of tule (sp?) so its pretty puffy. I am just worried that her hair might get a greenish glow from the dress if she gets swimmers hair from my parents pool! LOL At least it will match the dress :D

We got it from The Pageant Shoppe (online) -- the only complaint I really have is the smell! It stinks like rotten clams---if you can imagine what that smells like! I think if we dry clean it that will take the nasty smell away - I cant imagine why it smells though?!

Now she is really excited for the pageants to start!

For great undetected hair extensions call Toni's Touch at 879-1191. (I've had them in since June.)

For real pink and white nails like they do in Calfornia, call Christopher's Nails in Westbrook. His number is 854-4443.

Hair by Kristin at Voila. Her number is 878-3120. Also Linda at Acapello is great and of course Robert Towle.

I know that to most people, this may seem a stupid question. But as we are still fairly new, I thought I'd bite the bullet, and ask anyway. We have been looking over different pageants for Eva to possibly enter this year, and on many applications, I see reference to the term "pro-am". Sometimes it says it is allowed, and sometimes it's not. What exactly is "pro-am"? Eva is used to doing the "T" walk. And I didn't know if this is something different or what. Thanks in advance for your help!

Hello, my daughter Natalie is almost 4. Natalie Loves pageants, she could care less if she gets anything, she enjoys the stage, and loves to change outfits and "model" she calls it her fashion show. My question is, so far Natalie has not done a talent. But in an upcoming pagent it is part of her score. For a 4 year old what do you look for? I know some of the girls her age are very advanced, but Natalie is new to this, she does this for fun. Any ideas on talent for the younger girls would be great. Thank you, Sasha

This is Taylor & her best buddy "Oreo" - yes, a rat! Taylor absolutely loves this little girl! She would rather spend time playing with Oreo than anything else. Sadly, Oreo has a tumor that we noticed a few wks ago--we took her to the vet but they cannot operate - she would die from blood loss they said. Tonight is Oreo's last night to be with Taylor. We have to take her tomorow morning & have her put to sleep. (She is starting to chew a hole where the tumors are (sorry!) Taylor wanted to let everyone know so they can say a little prayer for Oreo!!

Hi! We just got a postcard in the mail for the Miss Eastern Maine pageant in Bailyville. Are any of you going? We wont spend the night since its only an hour & a half from here.

I think this might be a little unethical but I will ask & please let me know if you think this is a no no--- to post a few headshots & get opinions from here on which one is a favorite - so we could know which one to use at some upcoming pageants. Is that a no no? If it is I completely understand--if it isnt than I will be the first to post some head shots! LOL --of course I STILL dont know how to post pictures here!

Date Posted: 17:23:53 02/20/07 Tue

Good Morning! Since we are still the in "thinking" about continuing pageants phase we realized that we STILL need to buy Taylor a dress. We are planning on going to the Golden Girl pageant anyway so we definately need one. She is 8 & I wondered at her age what is more appropriate - short or long? I was thinking long but I have seen some adorable short ones locally. Do the judges really base part of their decisions on the style of the dress? I mean, if it fits right & is a pageant dress does it really matter? I know there are older girls in Miss Teen Maine & Miss Maine who Ive read spend hundreds of dollars on their dresses. For the young girls is the really necessary?

Any judges out there reading that would like to answer this annonymously? (did I spell that right) :)

Thanks! Have a great day everyone - the weekends here!

Taylor did the East Coast Angels pageant in Beals in December (I think that was the month) & was changing into her dress - it was cream on the bottom & black velvet on the top - when she put it on I started laughing because her underwear were bright red underneath & showed through terribly!! She was horrified! I had no slip because Ive never had to get her one & no petticoat---Taylor is very "prim & proper" & when I told her just to take her underwear off she almost died! Her face was SO red & she was so mad at me for not thinking about her feelings -- lol - I felt bad but it was just too funny! Turns out she took them off & ended up doing the pageant - luckily with no sour look on her face -- she ended up winning Queen in her division out of the 18 girls. I told her next time she wanted to win just to go camo! She was still pretty mad at me! Now I call her the Camo Queen----

There hasn't been as much talk this year as last regarding potential contestants for both the International and America pageant...just wondering if anyone has specifics, and if the America pageant is actually going to take place. I heard that International has made some changes so I'm sure there will be a great number of girls this year...but haven't heard anything about America. Does anyone have any info?

Hello to you all..I just wanted to post a picture I just did of Miss Maine International 2005 Tiffany Surette...My Make up artist Beth Swenson have a ad campaign going on and used Tiffany as one of our models....

Tiffany was a pleasure to work with!! She was great in front of the camera and gave 110% !!!

I am sure to some of you..This might seem a bit much...Especially for the fact this girl was a pageant holder....But...Keep in mind..There is life after being a title holder and as long as everything is done in taste...It's all good....Alot has changed over the years...Have any of you seen the lay outs and two page spreads some of these past title holders have been doing in the magazines as of late?? Very provocative!! It's just the shift and I think the pageant world is starting to keep up with the times.....Big hair and mounds of make up and gaudy dresses and pageant jewelry are on the wayside...I see that most pageant shows now where the girls hair is very sleek and styled and the make up is more glamorous... ( oh my GOD...Remember the 80's??? lol )
I personally like what I see going on these days as far as pageants....What are your thoughts??? What ever your thoughts may be..I hope your response will be adult like if you are not a big fan....

2007 Evening With the Pirates Scheduled for March 13th

FUNDRAISER TO BENEFIT THE MAINE CHILDREN'S CANCER PROGRAM AND PORTLAND PIRATES FOUNDATION
Portland, Maine - The Portland Pirates Foundation announced today that the 2007 Evening with the Pirates will be held on March 13, 2007 from 6-10 p.m. at the Holiday Inn By the Bay. This will be the ninth year that the Pirates have hosted this popular fundraiser involving the entire Pirates team, coaches and families. This year, the event will benefit the Maine Children's Cancer Program and the Portland Pirates Foundation. Over the past eight years, the Evening with the Pirates has raised over $200,000 for area charities and non-profit organizations.

This year the festivities will be marked by a Pirates theme, featuring silent and live auctions, gaming (for entertainment only), host comedian George Hamm, live buccaneer music from the Crow’s Nest, magic by the Steelegraves, a treasure chest raffle, grog provided by Pepsi, Gritty McDuff's and National Distributors as well as an assortment of grub from some of downtown Portland's finest galleys, plus great prizes! Admission (adults only) is $20.

Click here for ticket or donation information, or call the Pirates at (207) 828-4665 x301.

"We are excited to once again present this popular and fun event to the community which will also help raise funds for The Maine Children's Cancer Program and the Portland Pirates Foundation," said Pirates Managing Owner/CEO Brian Petrovek.

The Maine Children's Cancer Program works to provide integrated, comprehensive, clinical research-based medical care, psychosocial and practical support services to infants, children and adolescents with cancer from throughout the state of Maine. The mission of the program is not only to cure cancer in as many children as possible, but also to support children and their families through their difficult and stressful journey of living with childhood cancer.

The Portland Pirates Foundation was formed in July, 2003 as a Maine public charitable corporation and represents the philanthropic arm of Portland Pirates LLC. The mission of the Portland Pirates Foundation is to enrich and impact the region, and specifically the greater Portland area, through educational, sports-based, community-building and fundraising activities, programs, events and relationships. The Foundation leverages the unique talents, resources and capabilities of Portland Pirates players, families, employees and members and collaborates with local corporate and community partners to make a difference in our local communities.

I just want to apologize for my last post--I reread it & realized that it sounded pretty harsh. I am sorry. When I read the post about being bored because certain people (me being one of them) post here alot it bothered me. I dont know why because it shouldnt have. After all, this is a pageant board & from what I read in the begining these type of boards end up with people causing hate & discontent. So far that really hasnt happend. At least not with us regular posters. I looked back & noticed that it would be a pretty quiet board if you took out Sasha & my posts. I really didnt see any of our posts which didnt pertain to pageants - which is why had a counted to 10 I would have realized there was no reason to counter post "bored". Especially since this looks to me like the first post "bored" has even posted. So to all the regulars I am sorry. I am normally not a "nasty" person. Quite the opposite in fact---

So, "bored" if you are bored with certain posts why are you reading them? You dont have to read them if you dont want to. Only read what looks interesting to you. Thats what I do. If you want to post than feel free - we love to hear from everyone here! Even you Sasha- ;) (lol)

Dear Moms. We love hearing from you maybe you should start emailing each other instead of continually posting here on each others messages. There are many websites and info on the internet to find out what flippers are and things like that. To me, this board is becoming your personal board like others inundated the other board, and it got tiring. But this is my own personal opinion.

Hi Everyone,

We are new to this board & were referred by a friend. My 5yr old daughter has been doing pageants for over 4yrs now & we started here in Maine. After a couple of years staying local we decided to go out of state. One of our favorite pageants is NES. Mahala has won several titles with them & now needs to take a break from competing in that system & hostess for a while. Tammy (NES Director) has made some changes to her system & has decided to go natural, little - no make-up, no flippers, no wigglets. She is also planning on taking NES to other states. I have been talking to Tammy over the last couple of days about possibly bringing NES north & running the Tri-State area (ME, VT & NH) for her. Here is the website for NES http://www.nespageants.com/ as well as the website for the State level NES planned for NY by one of my pageant buddies Melissa http://www.nespageants.com/NESNY.html . Would this be something you all would like to see come to the Tri-State area? I am looking for some feedback to see if the pageant would work. I know we have lost 2 very wonderful pageants in ME over the last few months & I would love to see a great system come to Maine. NES has along standing as being one of the best systems in New England. Tammy has been running NES for 12yrs now & her prizes are wonderful. She has had contestants come from as far as Italy to compete in her system. Mahala has been competing in NES systems since 2004 & has won tons of beautiful prizes, crowns, sashes, banners, capes & scepters. Please email me with your input. franknsteph1996@msn.com I look forward to hearing from you.

Pageant Hugs,
Stephanie & Mahala

Here I am, not even SURE how many pageants Taylor is going to do this year & I am already buying her a dress for optional wear -- it is adorable! It is red white & blue with a darling hat--it was only $19 but it was SO cute I couldnt resist! It would be fine for Patriotic wear too!

I dont know if any knows or ever shops at Mardens but they had some pageant/flower girl dresses--white - some were really quite pretty. They were only about $45.

I still have yet to get Taylor one for glamour wear.

She had a tea party at a friends & they wore party dresses & got to wear makeup! I took some pictures but cant figure out how to get them here--I am computer illiterate! It makes me realize how old she looks with makeup & why we dont do it a pageants - she looked adorable but she is just as adorable without makeup---yes, Im biased!

What are flippers in the pageant world? I have never heard of them?!

Also, this has bugged me for a while--it happend during a Hawaiian Tropic pageant - not our division - one of the younger girls won for best hair- she was african american & had the most beautiful hair--the mother had told us when we commented on it that they were extensions. My guess is the judges didnt know but you would think that as a parent you wouldnt feel right entering an optional for best hair knowing it isnt even your childs real hair. It was an all natural pageant so to me that wasnt exactly natural---pretty, but not natural. Is that something that is common?

Thanks!!

I got these from her myspace page:

She had blonde hair for the pageant back in November, but now she's gone dark. Talk about a totally different look. I wonder if she'll do USA again this year.

Hey there, I'm looking to compete in Miss Maine USA next year and I was wondering who the best coaches were out there. Somebody that knows what they are really talking about. Someone who will work with me on nutrition, work out, and stage presence. If somebody can give me a few names and a way to reach them that would be great!!!!
