Our daughter did some modeling in Massachusetts as that is pretty much the nearest to Maine other than LL Bean & when we got into it the biggest words of advice were "you should not shell out 1 penny to be signed to an agency or book a job" - this is SO true--the only cost should be your fuel to get there - and some bookings pay travel expenses as well & your comp cards--again, some agencies will absorb the cost for these too. The modeling schools are a joke---paying to go to a group "go see" is a joke----your child should be the one getting the pay. Anywhere from $$50 an hour up...
Actually for kids---beauty is not a big factor in getting signed with an agency or getting paying jobs---the everyday average kid with the red hair & freckles is more likely to get a job than a beautiful "older" looking child - at least with girls. Just look at the covers of some kids magazines & you'll see. Our daughter did a few paid shoots - one magazine & two poster ads & we had to travel to Mass for these---there is not a lot of need for child models in New England---Its sad to see some parents shell out money left & right thinking that this will ensure or help their child get into modeling---biggest pc of advice is DO NOT PAY TO HAVE YOUR CHILD SEEN OR GO TO A BULK GO SEE.
