I would like to thank you personally when I actually meet you at this years Miss Maine U.S.A. Pageant in November. I have been on other boards recently and and would just like to thank you for not getting caught up into all the drama. I would also like to thank you for the new vision you and Mackenzie have for this years pageant! I think the two of you will both single handedly give the Miss Maine U.S.A. the face lift it has needed for years. It was always the same with out much change. I hope not to offend anyone with that comment and understand if you choose not to post this.I can just see that no matter what you put your hearts into . You give 110%. I love the parking garage shots! Very fashion oriented and different than anything I have seen over the years.I also like all the videos you have on this board as well.

Thank you for doing such a great job! I look forward to our meeting!

The northeaststarpageant pageant guestbook says:

It has come to our attention as why we do not give out scores. We follow the judging criteria of the Miss Maine America system, that was set up for us as a non-profit organization. All scores are to be kept confidential. So we follow that rule.

Their website is http://www.freewebs.com/northeaststarpageant

missmaine.org says their judging criteria is 20% evening gown, 35% talent, 15% swimsuit, 25% interview, and 5% onstage question. I think notheast star is just judged on interview, modeling, and evening gown, with talent optional.

I thought Miss Maine America has its pageant in May along with Maine's Outstanding Teen, and then the Maine Day pageants, and the Pine Tree Princess/Prince program. Is northeast star connected with the Miss Maine America system? How? Are they there own nonprofit 501 c(3) organization?

I'm also curious about which pageants do give out scores. That must be very helpful for those who want to enter again! Please share any knowledge you may have about this.

Thanks!

Bangs are usually the kiss of death. Generally the standard is how you look with your hair back and pulled off your face or no bangs.
Wear white or a variation of it when possible.
Some variations depend on pageant and age, but these factors still pretty much exist at a national level.

Here is a post I thought that might interest you all from Kristin Center....

Hello to everyone!

In July I traveled to Las Vegas and represented the state of Maine in the Mrs. United States Pageant. I did not make the coveted "top 10" but I considered my attendance there a blessing. Being Mrs. Maine has been a launching pad for the personal agenda I wanted to pursue and that was to somehow make a difference to the young girls in my community. I feel I am well on my way towards that goal.

During the "interview" phase of my national competition I was asked by one of the female judges, "why would any obese adolescent listen to a beauty queen?" Well, I have to admit to all of you that I actually thought to myself at that very moment "wow, that's true! Why WOULD any obese adolescent listen to a beauty queen?" I took a deep breath and answered the following response: "Anyone who knows Kristin, knows that I am a do-ER not a talk-ER. I AM what I preach. I DO what I say I'm going to do. You'll find me nearly every weekend either running in a race, volunteering at sporting events--be it soccer, basketball, softball or a local road race. I believe that when people KNOW that you are living it--they will follow your lead. Beauty queen or not."

Then another female judge asked me "Having twin girls that are 15 years old, how do you promote GIRL POWER in your home?" This one was MUCH easier because it's ALL ABOUT GIRL POWER in my house. I replied to her "My daughters watch me tie on my running shoes in the morning and go for a run, they watch me race on the weekends, they were coached by me for two years in youth basketball, they watched me petition the town of Freeport for one whole year until I convinced the town that there needed to be a sidewalk on Kendall Lane to get the walker-students to school safely, they hear me making phone calls to gather names for school functions, they watched me for 7 years studying and finally graduating with 2 degrees from University of New England. They are surrounded by the power of women. It doesn't even cross their minds that women are unequal or should be treated that way."

In case you are not aware, part of being Mrs. Maine 2007 carried with it my personal platform; "Adolescent Fitness with a Special Focus on Girls". During my reign I have been planning a road race that is to be held Saturday, October 20th at 10:00 a.m starting and ending at the Freeport High School. Not only will there be great awards, donated by Eastern Awards and Engraving, but I will also have a live band, and fantastic raffle prizes donated by Freeport merchants. You may enter online at www.maintrackclub.com or from the link on my website www.mrsmaine07.com. OR, best of all, just show up! You can enter that day as well. Although I can only guarantee a t-shirt to the first 75 registrants. Come and run, walk or dance your way through the town of Freeport. Race begins and ends at Freeport High School, 10 Holbrook Street.

This is a very special event as it is a culmination of many months of planning and work. The more people who show up and run/walk--the more money raised for the Freeport Girls Athletic program.

I hope to see you all there. Bring lots of friends and family. It will be a great race and I assure you all that it will be a race to return to next year and every year thereafter.

Prizes to 1st place male and female: 14 and under and 70 and over
1st and 2nd male and female: 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69
1st and 2nd Overall male and female

Thanks for all of your continued interest in my Mrs.Maine adventures. I end my reign in December and want this race to be the "cherry-on-top". All monies to be donated to the Freeport Girls Athletic program.

Many thanks to you all, as always

Directors are getting serious about deposits! Copied from the TN board. -- No name, 19:09:36 08/23/07 Thu [5]
This is in response to Linda Sansone - CONTESTANTS: SEND IN DEPOSITS!!! -- A director that understands, 08/23/07 7:49am

This is becoming a very big problem for me and my system. I don't think that everyone out there knows how much work is involved in putting on pageants, and how much money is involved. It can be an absolute DISASTER to order a ton of trophies and expensive custom crowns, only to receive two or three deposits before the "deadline to enter". Unless you are Janice Brown, you are never guaranteed to have someone enter at the door; in fact, I have NEVER had a door entry, even when it was on the form that I would take door entries, and I have been doing this for four years! Linda, don't feel like you owe ANYONE an excuse for cancelling, because you don't. I do not understand why people will not send in their deposits when they KNOW that they are going to attend. It would make it so much easier to plan on our end of the deal. I know that there are some of you out there that are faithful about always sending in a deposit, but the rest of you, and you know who you are, should take this post and Linda's post to heart and make it a point from now on to get those deposits in on time. We are ALWAYS willing to make changes when parents give us constructive criticism, now it is YOUR turn. Stop giving us the run-a-round and start letting us know that you are coming by the deadline date. There are a lot of good systems that are simply quitting because of this massive problem. Again, I am not trying to be ugly in any way, I just think that there are many people out there that do not realize how important getting your deposits into us really is. Now, lets change this and start having more pageants!!!

[> This is why there are hardly any good systems left. -- Another Director who understands, 08/23/07 9:27am

It takes alot of money to put on a good pageant, and crown suppliers, banners, etc. all require orders to be in by 2 weeks before your event. Without deposits, that all comes out of pocket for us as the directors. I currently am sitting on about $300 worth of Monogrammed banners from Cancelled Pageants. It just really takes the wind out of your sails, and makes you question whether or not to even keep trying. Yes, there are pageants that will let you just register at the door, BUT the crowns are tiny, the trophies are tiny, the prizes are cheap and you leave with no feeling of accomplishment--even if you won!
There are Great Honest Directors out there that have put way more effort than you can imagine into giving your little girls a NICE pageant you can both enjoy, that make nothing off of their pageants, that just simply enjoy giving your children a hobby, that have to cancel because you wont send in your deposits and they cant afford to pull that much money out of pocket. If you want a NICE pageant, you have GOT to send in a deposit. PLEASE help us give you want you want--- Great, Well Organized, Fun Pageants with Super Nice Awards---Send in a Deposit!!! PLEASE!

[> [> I think Discounts are part of the problem. -- director, 08/23/07 9:51am

I think that numbers have reached an all time low all across the board, and Directors have desperate tried to figure out ways to get people to come, so they started offering discounts after the deadline passed. It started with the late fee..it would get waived, and then the supreme package would drop or they would give you the door optioanls free, etc. I have seen this from small prelims to bigtime Nationals. So parents sit and try to wait it out to see what type of discount you are going to give to try and pull in more numbers. So essentially we the Directors are rewarding them for not sending their deposit in.
SOOOOO...I think that if we all stop doing late fees, etc. and start rewarding those who enter on time, with an earlybird discount we will start to see a rise in parents who actually send their things in on time. Just a thought. We need to do something..before all of us good directors give up and quit.

[> [> [> Re: I think Discounts are part of the problem. -- Another director, 08/23/07 9:57am

I agree! I think there should be late fees. If they don't get it in by the deadline there should be a late fee and a stiff one at that. A director that drops their price is just asking for trouble. Tiny Miss just did this and now she will never get people to enter on time because they will wait out the fee drop. I will never drop the fee because they are late getting in deposits. I would rather cancel that do that. I already have my fees as low as they can get and the late fee will stick.

[> [> [> [> Re: I think Discounts are part of the problem. -- Orignal Poster, 08/23/07 10:29am

Great ideas!!! Keep them coming. As for me, I think I am going to go with the Early Bird discount and then charge a stiff late fee, probably $25.00 for prelims and $50.00 for bigger pageants. Parents: Take notice of this. We are not trying to be mean or cruel, we want you to come to our pageants, but we cannot continue forking out the $$$ when you hold out on sending in deposits!

[> [> [> [> [> Re: I think Discounts are part of the problem. -- I understand, but, 08/23/07 10:38am

to some of us that do alot, it's hard to pick and choose right now, there are so many! I have so much other stuff going on that I admit I wait until the last minute, but enter by the deadline always. My kids are involved in alot of things and sometimes things come up at the last minute and pageants are usually secondary, so I have to wait or else lose my $. There are always 2 sides and I don't do it to cause any problems, I just never know what will be happening at my house! LOL We actually have something every weekend of our life!

[> [> [> [> [> [> Deposit are all ways transferable. -- A director that is 100% with the other directors. (Send in the deposit PLEASE!), 08/23/07 11:04am

You never lose your deposit it is all ways put toward another pageant, so if you do a lot of pageants you will use it on another one.

We directors want to give you the best of the best, but with out having deposits in HAND we cannot get you the best. That takes money and most of us do not have it lying around we relie on your deposits to pay for the best gifts, crowns, trophies, and so forth. So help us to give you the best by sending in the deposit.

I agree a late fee would be a good thing, which would show the Mother's that do send in a deposit we appreciate them for doing so, and show the ones who wait until after the deadline that we can't run a business on maybes.

VASSALBORO — Amanda Pelletier, 18, of Vassalboro, has worn the tiara of Miss Maine Teen USA since last Thanskgiving when she bested about 40 other girls in competition at the Sheraton Twin Towers in South Portland.

Amanda Pelletier, 18, of Vassalboro, is Miss Maine Teen USA. On Aug. 24, in Pasadena, Calif., she will compete with 50 other girls for the title of Miss Teen USA.

Now, Pelletier is ready to compete with girls from all 50 states and the District of Columbia for the title of Miss Teen USA. The competition will be held Friday, Aug. 24 in the Pasadena Civic Auditorium in Pasadena, Calif. and will be broadcast live at 9 p.m. on NBC.

Pelletier said the state competition consisted of a round of private interviews; swimsuit and evening gown competition; another round of swimsuit and evening grown competition for the top 15 girls; and then a final question to be answered on stage by the top five girls. She expects the national competition to be run in the same format.

Pelletier said she’s enjoyed being Miss Maine Teen USA.

“I’m at all the parades,” she said. “I have to go to certain events. I’m definitely busy. It’s definitely worth all the hard work.”

Pelletier, who just graduated from Winslow High School, is no stranger to winning pageants.

“I was Miss Maine Fourth of July in 2005,” said the exuberant blonde. “And I was Miss Maine Photogenic International in 2005 and 2006.”

The daughter of Danielle and Troy Pelletier, she has one 12-year-old brother, Adam, who’s very excited about her success.

Her whole family is going to the Pasadena competition, including both sets of grandparents and her three best friends.

“I leave on Aug. 11,” Pelletier said. The pageant has arranged two weeks of exciting activities leading up to the Aug. 24 competition, though Pelletier didn’t know specifically what those activities will be.

“Last year, they had a party with the cast of ‘Desperate Housewives,’” she said. “They close down movie theaters and water slide parks for us. There’s 51 of us and they’re trying to take shots of us for the show.”

Pelletier exclaimed, “I’m ready to go today. I’m very excited about it.”

Because her father served in the Navy and moved around a lot, Pelletier also has lived in a lot of different places. She was born in San Pedro, Calif.; moved to New Hampshire when she was 2; then moved to Virginia: then to Japan; and finally to Maine.

Pelletier has an impressive record of accomplishment for an 18-year-old.

In September, she will enter Husson College in Bangor as a sophomore because she has already taken enough college courses in high school to qualify for her freshman year in college.

She’s going to major in English because she wants to go into broadcast journalism. She also wants to work on Cosmo Girl magazine and hopes to finish college in New York City while working as an intern at the magazine.

She wrote articles for the Winslow High School yearbook, “The Periscope.”

Pelletier recently completed her first book, called “Where’s Grandma?”

It is about her grandmother, Betty Pelletier, who was the first woman in Maine to enter the U.S. Army. Now Betty has Alzheimer’s disease.

“She had a really interesting life,” Pelletier said. “I’m trying to get the book published. If not, I’ll make copies for everybody in my family. I think it will touch anybody who has a family member with Alzheimer’s who grew up in that generation.”

Pelletier said it took her four to five months to write the book, starting last summer. “It was fun writing,” she said. “She didn’t know I was writing a story about her. She just thought I was asking a lot of questions. But she knows now.”

Pelletier also was captain of the varsity cheerleading team at Winslow High School and plans to continue cheering at Husson.

She will return from the Miss Teen USA Pageant on Aug. 26 and report early to Husson on Aug. 28 because she’s on the cheering team.

Pelletier has danced for 14 years. “I’ve traveled to Japan and danced there,” she said. “I’ve danced with Andre Bossov. I’ve danced with Stage Presence for Dancers in Winslow. I assist teaching a class of 3-year-olds on top of my own dance classes.”

Pelletier in 2004 founded a group called “Angels in Your Community” to encourage teen volunteerism. “The group got bigger and bigger,” she said. It works with the Red Cross, the YMCA and the Humane Society in Waterville doing volunteer tasks.

Pelletier has won a title in every pageant she’s been in.

“Hopefully, that means something good for this one,” she said.

Sounds like a good one! There are going to be about 40 girls there---wow! I for one really like these kind of pageants. They have interviews & on stage introductions. You have to have brains as well as beauty. They don't just "give" the titles away like some of the other pageants do. I like that about the Couto pageants too. It would mean so much more to know you earned the title by having an interview & on stage introduction that you did really well in.

Good luck to all the girls whether you are in Northern Maine or Southern Maine! Have fun & be yourself!

I have finally decompressed from my trip to LasVegas for the Nationals. There was much controversy over the selection of winner and top 10. Although I did not make top 10 I like to think I was a strong 11th! haha! You never know. I have requested my scores just so I know what I was lacking in. I learned SOOO much about myself, pageants and other people. My roommate was Mrs. New Hampshire and what a doll! She was so patient with me because I had so many questions. Having a veteran pageant girl as your roommate is the bomb!

I pretty much realized that even though the schedule looked like it allowed for plenty of free time, it really wasn't that way at all. Every free second was spent scoffing down a meal, steaming clothing for the next event, hair and makeup, hair and makeup, hair and makeup. I think I've been makeup-less since my return. I have never applied and washed off my makeup and re-applied so many times in one day! haha! Whew....I guess I'm not as girlie-girl as I thought.

I was surprised how friendly the majority of the women were. EVERYONE was willing to sit with you and strike up a conversation at any time. We were required to wear our sashes at ALL times so it was common to have many, many conversations with complete strangers. One man from Wiscasset, Maine spoke with me a bit at Harrah's.

I was lucky enough to become instant buddies with Oregon and Michigan (and of course, NH) so we kind of stuck close to one another and watched out for each other. So when Michigan won.....I was thrilled. Not only did she break every stereotype of what a pageant winner should "look like", she quieted the room! She was the first African American woman to win in the pageant's 21 year history. She is also slated to be on the cover of People Magazine's special "I lost 100lbs" issue. Many of the "size 2's" had a hard time with the judges decision but I didn't at all! My family was the best. The bought craft materials at the Target across the street and made big posters with my headshots (thanks Stew, we knew those would come in very handy) and waved them. I loved having them there but the posters were bonus.

I got home on Saturday, the 14th and my luggage got here the next day. That's one way of avoiding the unpacking thing----laundry had to wait. LOL. I became ill on the way home and ended up with pneumonia. I finally feel like a human being as of today so now I'll have to start running again. Friday night was the Yarmouth Clam Festival parade so I took a big swig of cough medicine, piled on the makeup and smiled like only a Queen can. My car caught on fire on the way home from work on Wednesday night so now I'll be shopping for a new one. Needless to say, the life of Mrs. Maine continues to speed along.

I don't know how to post pictures on here but if you visit my site www.mrsmaine07.com, you can go to my Vegas page and view my photos. Drop me a line and say hello!

Thanks for listening to my run on's. Have a great weekend!
