Hello to everyone,
Hopefully I have not forgotten anyone that I am meaning to thank. This letter is intended to let everyone know how things are shaping up and what I've been up to.
For some strange reason, I am pretty calm. After finally packing up my bags (basically) I finally got a good night's sleep. It's so much more difficult than anyone could imagine. Believe it or not. Every day will be filled with appearances and functions, cocktail parties and cruises, photo sessions and rehearsals. My itinerary does not leave much time for enjoying LasVegas. I'm leaving Saturday at 1:00 p.m. With my husband, daughters and step-daughter. I am especially thrilled to have my cousin, Terry Barton, from California meeting us out there in Vegas. She's a breath of fresh air and I love her dearly. Can't wait to see you, Terry! We are so excited to get it going.
Over the last few months and weeks I've been frantically preparing for my road race that will take place on October 20th here in Freeport. Although its months away, the deadlines are now. So, to make things even more confusing, I'm trying to keep several to-do-lists complete.
I ask that you all go to my website and see all of the wonderful things I've been able to be a part of. www.mrsmaine07.com.
LaKermesse was a blast. Freeport 4th of July parade was too! I love my hometown of Freeport!
My first and most heartfelt thank you needs to go to my husband, Harry. You can't even begin to understand what a saint he is for putting up with me through it all. The last minute hair and makeup emergencies. Taking pictures for my website. Organizing dinner for the girls when I'm crazy busy. No matter how I look, my husband tells me I'm the most beautiful woman in the room and that's a precious thing to have in a husband. He makes it easy to be myself and explore what the world has to offer. I'm forever grateful for his loving support, helpful guidance and his genuine enthusiasm for something he didn't ask to be a part of but has welcomed so lovingly into our home. I love you. And yes, this DOES make you Mr.Maine!
***Thank you Susan Ray, Silpada jewelry gal extraordinaire for my super fundraiser.
***Christie Petit, you've been a great source of information and thanks for keeping up with my schedule. I've been lucky enough to not only call you a great scheduler but a super friend.
***Stewart, you've been an advocate for every woman and title holder that you've photographed. I will always call on you for any photography needs. Thank you.
***Mark & Denise Lessard & family, thank you for your gift....I appreciate it so very much.
***Stephanie Dudley--my friend first, hairdresser second! You make me laugh so hard and you have been a great source of glamour knowledge, friendship, comedic relief and an all-round confidant. I love you.
***Carolyn Martinez--thank you to you for my nails and the many gifts you've given. It's been fun filling you in every two weeks while you are "filling me in". Haha.
***Steve Alpren, you know that you've helped out with exposure and appearances and I feel we both know that my goal is to help promote my platform and have a good time while doing it.
***Vickie Kelley, having someone like you to bring all of my emergencies to has been invaluable. We've laughed a ton and through it all, I have to say YOU have been my biggest cheerleader. When I've been unsure of something you've always set me straight and sent me on my way. And, you didn't make me feel so bad when I threw the pitch into the dirt at the SeaDogs. Haha!
***Beth Olesen and the gang at PTI.....you were my first sponsor and my undying team of relentless coaches. I now know what it REALLY takes to be an athlete. You were not just my trainers, you showed such a sincere enthusiasm for my work and my goal....to be the next Mrs.United States. Beth, I love you and I'll be the one standing at the finish line of that Marathon waiting for you--no matter what year it is!
***Elizabeth Hamilton-Guarino, Mrs. Maine United States 2006, thank you for paving the way and making the transition from your reign to mine so easy. I had some big shoes to fill and I only hope that I make you proud.
***Matt and Jason, at MaineGems in Freeport, thank you for the once-in-a-lifetime chance to wear the most beautiful jewelry ever. You didn't even hesitate to donate it and I truly felt like a princess when it adorned my hand.
***To Bo and the boys at BlackBear Signworks, thank you for the great looking signs I've used to announce my appearance at local parades. You were very gracious and generous with your time and donation. I thank you.
***My friends Lynn & Rick, Eric & Colleen, Kemal & Laura, Mark & Torrie-thanks for always being so excited for my crazy endeavors. One of the twins is wearing the great t-shirt you made Torrie. Survivor here I come!!!!
My most special "thank you" to my pageant coach Robert Towle. Robert "doesn't do e-mail" so he'll never receive this but I want everyone to know what he's done for me and that there ARE people out there who sincerely go out of their way just because they care. Robert came into his shop on days off, trained me on walking, posing, sitting, standing, speaking and every other "ing" out there. He made me laugh my butt off every step of the way and he even came to NYC with me on a weekend junket to shop for evening gown, interview suit and jewelry. (and every other trinket he thought I needed). The Miss Maine organization is truly blessed to have this man in their corner and I'm blessed to have gotten to work with him. From the bottom of my heart Robert, thank you.
I'll return on the 13th of July and fill everyone in on my adventures. Wish me luck in Vegas!
Fondly,
Kristin Center
