I've always been VERY FOND of the State of MAINE and its people and that is the only reason I continue to come to Maine (this will be my 19th year producing the state pageant)
It is very costly to produce a pageant, and more so when you have to pay fees to a National Organization, even before the pageant is held.
This might very well be my LAST YEAR as I cannot afford to lose money again (especially since my husband has been out of work for the past 6 months due to illness.) We have always treated our royalty well. We send our state winners to NATIONALS in Florida with FULL PAGEANT FEES and PLANE FLIGHTS PAID by us... even when we've only had 2 per division in some cases. Dont know many other pageants that still do that along with awarding the winners a SAVINGS BOND!
For the record on PRIZES: We award $1,000 CASH AWARDS at some of out pageants, $1,000 BONDS at most of our pageants and a $5,000 Bond as a TOP Prize at our AUGUST Pageant! Also $500 Bonds are awarded to the OPTIONAL EVENT Winners at that pageant. GOOD MONEY PRIZES are always awarded at our competitions, regardless of numbers. Most of our pageant fees range from $95 to $350 depending on the pageant. Unlike some pageants out there charging $500-$700 today, with some not having much to show for in prizes. I've been to some of them, so I know.
Another note, I try to get to know my queens every year. I invite them to my home for a SUMMER ROYALTY COOK-OUT (dont know many directors who have done that) and we have a get-together in the winter at a state-of-the art SKATING RINK to celebrate the holidays. I always provide small special gifts to all who attend.
I truly believe...There is a pageant out there right for everyone... its up TO YOU TO FIND IT!
