From what I see, people in the Portland area believe only Cumberland and York County are southern Maine. In Aroostook County, the editor of the local paper talks about anything south of Aroostook County as being southern Maine, or and especially anything south of Newport, the geographic center of Maine. It's all relative to where you live.

The only thing that everyone can agree on is that Aroostook County is located in Northern Maine. This debate goes along with the fact that many people believe there are 2 Maines. Please remember, for most people who do not live in the Portland area, it's a long drive to get there!
